I need some opinions or suggestions for a christening gift for my nephew, also to be godson.

I have a daughter and she mainly recieved jewellery for her christening and I'm finding it harder to find somehting special for a little boy.

Top ideas so far are 1) lucky silver penny & silver money box (personalised) or 2) silver tankard

any ideas or thoughts?

I am not a fan of "useless" presents like that. How about a boxed set of classic children's stories - something that will actually be used.

I know, not very original ideas! I only really have my own daughters christening for reference and she only recieved presents that you would describe as 'useless'. All jewellery, money boxes, etc etc.

I like the idea of somehting different...am going to look up some book ideas, and maybe limited edition childrens prints. There just seems ot be so much more choice for girls!

I was going to suggest a classic children's book too. Like Winnie the Pooh or Wind in the Willows. There are some lovely editions out there.

Or for a modern twist what about one of those kits where you name a star after the baby?

ds2 was given some lovely jewellery, useless true but very much a keepsake, ds has the train bracelet and the dog tag necklace.

IMO that really does come under the "useless" type of present. I would have been seriously underimpressed if someone had wasted their money on that for DD.

Yes to classic children's books.

But I also like the Bunnykins/Peter Rabbit etc bowls, plates, cups - they are lovely keepsakes but also useful - we got some as gifts when both DSs were christened and we use them nearly every day.

Don't worry, bunbaker, I wasn't proposing to buy you one! Grin
