Who doesn't do party bags?

Do you put the cake to take home in a bag or just in a napkin?

Do you do balloons for them to take home or just cake?

I have never done the party bag bit! A smile, a thankyou for coming and a bit of cake in a napkin. Job done!

So literally just cake in a napkin? No bag to put cake in, no balloon?

It's my first children's birthday party but I want to start as I mean to go on!!

If you do party bags and all that frippery it will be expected every time..I don't even get themed napkins, just plain white. Many parents in my area are now shunning the party bag, they are always full of plastic crap that lasts 2 seconds (however well meant) and sugary sweets. They end up costing a fortune for something that, ultimately, lasts a few minutes!

I have found red napkins cheap in Home Bargains so have got those, otherwise I would have got white.

This is exactly why I don't want to start it.

However all the threads I had seen on the subject if people didn't do party bags they all seemed to hand balloons out instead.

Pah..balloons? The slippery slope to party bag doom Grin

Balloons are a death trap for under 11s. They apparently struggle to blow them up and end up inhaling them by accident with tragic results.

Yeah - happy birthday!

I hate balloons, they hang around the house for ages getting more and more like shriveled tits, also they scare our dog. And boo to plastic crap in party bags. Although my kids LOVE them.

Cake in a napkin would annoy me as well, as cake would get all over the car, but like the idea in principal.

Gad, I'm miserable aren't I!

The best thing we did was a lucky dip, each kid got a small book or toy, cheapish say 1 or 2 quid each. But not junk iyswim.

savoycabbage · 28/06/2012 02:32

Don't put the cake in a bag or it will look like a party bag!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 28/06/2012 02:45

True Savoy, just a really rubbish party bag Grin

humblebumble · 28/06/2012 03:28

I give a lollipop, a book (bulk buy from book people so it costs less than a pound), and a balloon already blown up. I don't bother giving cake to take home, too messy.

Plain napkins only. No themes.

We are having a Mickey Mouse themed party. The themed plates were too expensive so I decided to opt for plates that went with the red colour scheme. (Have got red balloons, red tablecloth, red banners, red napkins etc) However the only plates I have found are red star plates in Tesco which are £1.88 for 20 (making them about 9p each). Would you get those or would you get white paper plates which are 79p for 30 (making them about 2/3p each)

I just gave the kids cupcakes at DS party and left a big tub of those mini bags of haribo by the door for them to grab on the way out..
