Buy pizzas from Asda and cook them or get them delivered?

I am having a party in a community hall for 40 children.

In Asda the 14" pizzas are £3.50 but I would have to cook them.
At the takeaway I can get a 16" pizza for £5.50

I have worked out that the extra 2" pizza from Asda would cost £1.07 so if they did 16" pizzas they would cost £4.57.

For an extra 93p per pizza would you just opt for the takeaway?

Yes I would. Takeaway pizza is much nicer than supermarket pizza, as well as the added faffing about.

usualsuspect · 26/06/2012 16:16

I would go for the takeaway , much less hassle

Takeaway.

Less hassle and nicer.

Shouldacouldawoulda · 26/06/2012 16:51

Take-away is more special. I bet they would give you a discount for that many too. Some places do BOGOF or similar, it's worth ringing around.

nappyaddict · 27/06/2012 09:58

These are BOGOF :) They are actually £10.99

A 16" pizza is 12 slices but obviously they are fairly big slices. The children range in age from 2-8 so how many slices do you think I need per child?

Ime small children don't like pizza! DS is nearly 4, have seen lots of uneaten pizza at the end of parties in the last few years.

stealthsquiggle · 27/06/2012 10:03

Takeaway. Definitely. The ovens in community halls rarely, IME, get hot enough to cook pizza properly. If you ask nicely they might even pre-slice it into smaller slices for you.

99rose · 27/06/2012 21:11

what take away are you going to ?

HipHopGorilla · 27/06/2012 21:56

Agree with Bikerunski, lots of little children don't like pizza. You might end up with a lot of left over pizza.

stressheaderic · 27/06/2012 22:00

My 2 yo DD loves pizza but not with any 'bits' on, just a plain old cheese and tomato jobby. She loves garlic bread more, our pizza place usually throws one in (the flatbread type) for free when we get a couple of pizzas, worth asking?

nappyaddict · 28/06/2012 01:24

Yes was just going to get plain for ease from the local takeaway.

Takeaway is much tastier. If its such a little price difference go for that.

piprabbit · 28/06/2012 01:45

Having spent a fun evening trying to cook multiple pizza's in a community hall oven, I beg you to please go for the takeaway option - for the sake of your sanity.

willbeskinny · 28/06/2012 10:37

Def takeaway. I did exactly this for DS party last yr. Much easier. Placed order. Paid. Sent DP to pick up. Absolutely stress free. We just ended up with about 5 pizzas left but I def reccommend it. HTH!

nappyaddict · 29/06/2012 08:21

What size pizzas did you get and roughly how many slices per person?

We had 24 kids and I think we got around 4 cheese & tomato, 4 pepperoni, 2 garlic breads and 2 cheesy garlic breads. We got 12" for the pizzas and 9" for the garlic breads. We also got about 8 10 fries. It cost £42.

In all honesty, it was way way too much. We ended up taking about 5 pizzas home. I did put things like those mini flapjacks and caramel shortbreads out and mini crispycakes.

Dependant on how old the kids are I would base it on 3-ish slices per child if you're gonna get other bits like I did.

Hope this helps Grin

nappyaddict · 30/06/2012 23:33

I was just gonna get pizza to make it simple and do some salad skewers with it. Have also got crisps, cheesey savoury things, cornflake cakes and chocolate fountain for strawberries and grapes.

IMO take-away will be easier and stress free. Prepare all your other bits day befor, order pizza day before and should be fine.

I'm just in process of organising DS b'day again and doing take-away pizza again as it was such a hit and absolutely no bother.

Hope party goes well.

If you already have that I would honestly save your cash and spend 30 minutes on the morning using 3 sliced loaves to make cheese/ham/jam sandwiches. No one expects any more than that and kids will be happier. A quicker cheaper option if you set on hot food and have cookers there= tinned hot dogs/buns with cheese sandwich for vegetarians.

nappyaddict · 02/07/2012 10:30

We paid £45 for 6 X large pizzas and 3 cheesy garlic bread pizza bases. I ordered 3 plain, 2 peperoni and 1 ham and pineapple. I got them to double cut the pizza so instead of 12 slices we had 24 smaller slices in each one.

We had 55 children but only 44 ate pizza due to allergies/fussiness so the rest had sandwiches.

I didn't think it was bad for £1 a head. Can you do a buffet cheaper than that?
