Farm part etiquette

We are in the process of booking DS fourth birthday party at a local farm/soft play place. It is huge and can easily amuse a whole family for a whole day. We have a large list of people who have to come and will come (NCT, old neighbours, old friends wih kids) and a smaller list of nursery friends. We can afford to pay for all the kids but although accompanying adults are at a very reduced price, they are not included with child entry as part of the package. Lots of our friends will turn up as couples as we would expect. I think I will have to ask parents to pay for themselves and although I feel odd about it, I can't justify the expense otherwise. Just so you don't think I am being mean, the cost for 20 kids is £230. If they all come with two adults, the additional cost is just shy of another £200. All the kids get fed, the adults are fed too, there will be cake and party bags. There is no time limit on entry so they can arrive whenever, stay all day and have free run around the place for a max cost of £9 if two adults come. Am I being mean? I don,t mind if people think I am, I feel a little mean. My friends won't mind, but I don't want to upset the parents of the nursery kids. Thanks for any advice.

Don't think you are being mean at all. Sounds like you are already being extremely generous.

If you haven't sent the invitations out yet, just mention on it that all adults are welcome but that they will have to pay their own entrance fee and let them know the price.

Can you cope if some parents just leave the children with you and don't stay? Some parents will leave children at a 4 year old's party.

You are not being mean at all, but you do need to make it very clear on invitations.

"Parents/siblings would be very welcome but we can only pay entrance for invited child(ren) - if you would prefer to leave your child(ren), please let me know so that I have an idea of numbers" - maybe?

This is fine, but you may get a slightly lower take up - I would only come if we had no other plans and could make a day of it.

Thanks for all the replies - they made very good sense! I will have a good think about it and be very clear on the invites.
