Party food for after school party???

OK quick question here, we are having an after school party for my 2 as we cannot do a weekend around their birthdays. Normally I woudl just do sandwiches etc as everyone knows food doesn't get eaten at parties. BUT this will be their main meal of the day (no school meals only packed) So, do I
a) do sandwiches as per normal party food
b) do healthy proper cooked dinner (shepherds pie or lasagne)
c) do 'kiddy' food like Fish fingers and chips
d) do hot party food, like mini pizzas, baby sausages, home meade chicken nuggets as some sort of a buffet
(oh and one is veggie, so I have to do something additional for her, or do it all veggie)

BTW there will be 12 kids, in our house. We can seat them all using the kiddy picnic tables, so that isn't an issue.

i think kids dont eat much at parties anyway but I like the sound of d, you could have vege pizza, vegie fingers, quorn sausages etc.

why don't you get them making their own pizzas?

party activity and dinner in one

crunchie · 26/02/2006 18:42

But afterschool will be their only proper meal. Normally I do a fdew sandwiches. I just think I need to do a proper meal, or am I daft??

How about "healthy" kid's food such as homemade burgers and homemade oven chips, as a compromise? Or, make your own pizzas and get them to double up and do their own toppings from a selection?

I'd probably go for something warm and a but substatial if it is their main meal of the day, but something that doesn't take much time to eat so whole party isn't just food.

I did (c) for ds's 4th birthday party and it was very successful. I'd definitely go for either options (c) or (d). (c) is the least labour-intensive, and you can get veggie-fingers to serve together with the fishvingers.

I'd do c and d - ie chips and a selection of fish fingers, homemade nuggets, sausages and pizza (pizza could be veg , and serve cucumber grapes and carrot sticks for veg (let them help themselves)

should please everyone

don't do a healthy cooked dinner, they will be gutted

hot party food sounds like a good bet. Hotdogs with salad and pasta salad? You can get veggie sausages.

colditz, but their parents won't be!!

I am trying to be organised as we get back from holiday late Monday, the party is on Wednesday and I work full time (I am taking 1/2 day on Wednesday though)

I did one last week with, egg and tomato sandwiches, ham and cucumber and cheese, sausage rolls and pizza slices and also a plate of sausages and new potatoes. Do some plain pizza too for the vegetarian
and have fun!!

I know crunchie, I see your point, but you're not holding a party for parents.

you may get 4 or 5 kids wailing "But I thought it was a paaaartyyyyy!"
