How much do you spend on birthday party presents?

Sorry for the novice question!

Up until now my DD has only been to birthday parties of close friends. Now at nursery my DD has just started being invited to the birthday parties by her friends there. I don't know the parents and the children don't catch up outside of nursery. As the invites include the entire class this could get expensive - so how much is reasonable? Any examples what to buy would be very much appreciated too!

Thanks!

About £5 and I have a present draw stocked with bargain, books, toys, craft stuff, pretty hair things etc. Sometimes I get multipacks from book clubs and break them up too.
:)

I also keep a stock of cards and gift bags handy.

Thank you! Great tips. I do get DD to make her own cards so at least that's one less thing to buy.

Can you give books as return gifts instead of party bags? Will this be considered "NOT KOOL" by kids? What can be the avg price range for each book and can anyone suggest some places to buy them. Iam planning a Bday party for my 7 yr old and expecting some tiny tots too.

Best place I have found for book multipacks is the book people, usually they work out at a pound per book, sometimes get some better deals though. Delivery is free if you spend more than #25 and within a week.

I also find that poundland and 99p stores are rich pickings for such things too. You can get things like seed growing kits etc, or various toys/stationery etc.

Agree with others - things that look as if about £5 has been spent on them, but you keep a present box of books you've got form the Book People, or things you buy in the sales or when a good offer is on. Wink

I (and everyone else I know) stocks up at the Sainsburys half price toy sale.

I bought about 10 lego police vans and 5 Twisters last year which is still keeping me going Grin
