Chocolate Fountain for 6 year olds party?

My parents bought us a chocolate fountain for Christmas a few years ago, we've never used it.
It's just occurred to me, maybe I could use if for DS's (6) party?
Is that a really stupid idea?
Could it be too messy? It's at the village hall.
Where do I get the chocolate?

Sorry for all the postings, my mind is a buzz at the moment. Blush

it will get messy but they have a fab time. we did this for ds2's 6th birthday (HES 10 NOW) and they loved it.
We brought lots of fruit, strawberries, banana, clementines, and put those out in bowls cut into bite size pieces and segments. We also had mini doughnuts, marshmallows and mini flapjacks.
I was surprised at how restrained the children were, most children had between 2 and 5 pieces, only two girls who would have stood there for the whole party if we'd have let them.
We did also advise parents on the invitation, so they could dress the child accordingly (no designer favourites) and advise of any allergies.

I wouldn't unless you know that they are all well behaved, wouldn't make a mess and wouldn't double dip. It's asking for problems IMO.

I'm just seeing chocolate-covered children puking everywhere! :o

As long as you're not expecting adults to use it as well - the thought of the amount of double dipping/breathing/sneezing on it all makes me feel a bit funny!

Great idea for 6 yr olds though who really won't care about that kind of thing!

Eeeew, no! I don't mind messy kids (I encourage it in the garden) but a choc fountain would lead to a huge mess.

And the double dipping would set my germ radar off. The kids would love it though.

Double dipping - and wiping all over the house.

If you can stand that, go for it.

I think I might be able to contain the double dipping by manning it. I'm also imagining myself assisting the children with dipping.
I have one child, in my mind's eye, who would probably climb into it given half the chance. However, I don't want to spoil everyone else fun just for the sake of him.

Okay I've done a bit of research on this now. I've gone off the idea, I think it was going to be too much hard work for a very short amount of time.
Think I'll pass on it this time.

Thank you ladies Smile
