all ds1 likes, really, is tractors, combines and the like. I'd like to have a party for his 4th birthday with a farm theme but cannot think how to integrate this. Birthday cake i can do (well, get); can anyone suggest other ways to farm it up Smile ?

How many guests, where will party be held? Avg age of guests, are they mostly boys?

Can you have it on a farm? With rides on tractors?

Fancy dress? Everyone could be farm animals and your ds the farmer?

Theme your food? E.g. Maybe cut sandwiches into circles call them tractor wheels?

Party games with tenuous links to farms- pin the tail on the donkeys, tractor race (assuming you ds has a few!), cut out lily pads and pretend the carpet is a pond and they are all frogs, must be on a lily pad when the music stops, take one away each time...

Will have a think for any more ideas.

Ooh, I like the fancy dress idea :).
I was stretching to stuff like colouring tractors, or making one out of bits of paper & stick on wheels.
Have to sing Old MacDonald, too.

We play 'what's the time mr fox' and they pretend to be chickens, they love that, egg and spoon race? Game where you call out an animal and they have to pretend to be that animal, then call out another animal etc, they love doing that. Duck, duck goose (though not sure if might be a little young), stuck in the mud.

Pass the parcel, but put animal pictures in the layers, the child can make the right noise or pretend to be that animal, and the others have to say what he is.

Musical chair but use cardboard cow pats instead of chairs.

Get little plastic animals, tractors and diggers to hide round the house for a hunt, the team with the most animals wins a prize.

Print out digger and tractor pictures for colouring in.

You can farm themed plates, cups banners etc. Loads of places do them - like here or here

This site is always good for ideas for games to play and ways to work the theme in.

You could buy some farm animal shaped cutters and make sandwiches or biscuits into shapes? Maybe do chocolate mousse cow pats for pudding? Themed colouring in always goes down well with this sort of age group.

Pin the tail on the donkey is a brilliant idea. Fancy dress should be fairly easy to do too.

Wow, I wasn't sure how busy this topic is, thanks so much. Mainly 3-4 yr olds, equally boys/girls, approx. 20. I plan to hold it in a hall. The fancy dress idea is great, I love that sort of thing. It wouldn't put other people off though would it, as creates work? If I made it optional would no one bother? Love the ideas so far. I haven't done a big party before and am not very confident wrt organising games and taking charge. Wondered about getting an entertainer too?
