Please help me.....my 40th bithday party...... disco? children? lunch? evening? home? hall?

My 40th birthday is coming up in July

I want to have a party

I don't like dancing though but DH and DS and friends do like it

It makes my head hurt not the music but if I dance my head throbs

Do I have a disco to please everyone else?

Do I have a lunchtime one so not have disco?

If I have evening one will people bring their children? -- I want the children to come

Would you go to a lunchtime one?

What would you expect to be there?

It will be for minimum of 30 adults and 25 children ranging from 3 years to 18 years

with most of them being around 11 years

Would you think it boring to not have music?

we could have it at home in garden or we could have it at DH school and use their hall and grass/garden area

What about doing it like a children's party?

I could increase the numbers easily to include more of the families from school

Please help me I don't know what to do

.

I shall start the furore.

Without kids.

And can I come?

Tasa · 19/01/2006 12:36

why not have it on a Saturday afternoon and have a barbeque, that way you don't need to have music but can have it if you want later, early evening?

RTKangaMummy · 19/01/2006 12:41

I did think about BBQ but ours is a gas one and although it is big is not that big

my birthday is on a saturday so yes it would be on a sat

ML that would be showing favouritism though cos where would I stop saying yes

would deffo want the children there cos then invite all DS friends from his class before they leave for holidays

So you wouldn't think boring to not have disco????

I am glad to hear that

so what time would you put for a BBQ???

I have just found out that the world cup 3rd round is that night kick off at 21.00 so I guess that is 22.00 in uk

so people won't want to be out that night will they?????

so it had better be afternoon

I would say go for a mid afternoon bbq in your own garden (assuming it is big enough) and look into the possibility (for that number) of getting barbecue caterers in. You will be saving what you would have spent on hiring DJ/hall etc.

You lucky thing having a summer birthday.

RTKangaMummy · 19/01/2006 13:08

oh didn't know about BBQ caterers -- interesting idea

we don't have to pay for the hall cos it is at DH school

so do you think for the children have the pool and garden stuff out

garden is fine for that number but having 25 + children running round house bit of nightmere if raining

so what time would you put on invites ??????

Yes but garden is much nicer at that time of year although I realise the rain is always a risk. Maybe you could get hold of a gazebo type thing also. Don't know where you would get hold of caterers but I'm sure it is a possibility. We went to one at DH's work and they had hired some from the village butchers and it was lovely - good quality sausages and great kebabs etc.

Also I have it in my head that 2100 in Germany is actually 2000 in England. So that would mean that you might find people sloping off to the room where you have the TV at that point.

Bozza · 19/01/2006 13:15

I would say late afternoon - 3, 3.30, 4 something like that.

Also football interest will depend somewhat on whether England have progressed so far.

compo · 19/01/2006 13:16

If you had a BBQ at night the lads could always sit in the lounge and watch the footie whilst the party continued outside

RTKangaMummy · 19/01/2006 13:19

we have got a gazebo but is only 3 metres x 3 metres

the hall does have gardens out of double doors iyswim

perhaps we see what the weather forcast is

Bozza
England are going to win!!!

RTKangaMummy · 19/01/2006 13:31

so then what time to eat?

Thanks for all your help

Bozza · 19/01/2006 13:36

Maybe start from 4, but don't expect people to arrive dead on time. Then have nibbles and drinks availabe. Then start the food an hour or so later. That would suit the children I would imagine. Other people would probably totally disagree with me, of course.

Have the pool and garden stuff out. Maybe some music on in the background. Invite your immediate neighbours. Should be lovely.

RTKangaMummy · 19/01/2006 13:40

DEFFO BRILL

DH is going to ask catering manager at school if they can do BBQ for me

They have done weddings and christening for staff members so hopefully they will

Thanks for all your help and ideas

as always MN has come up trumps

Great idea from DH. Hopefully means you should be able to relax and enjoy.
