Help: 13 children coming on Sat and I feel totally unprepared!

Well that says it all really - just having a bit of a panic about my DD's 5th birthday party on Sat! Why do I inflict this upon myself - why can't I just invite 5 kids?! If the weather is good, we should be OK, cos can be in garden, but if not, we're scuppered: too many of us squashed in a not very big flat.

Please please can anyone suggest good games that are foolproof/failsafe for 5 yr olds (mostly girls and a few boys)? I was reading about 'Don't Eat Tommy Smartie' which sounds good, though wondering if this will cause massive tears if they go for Tommy Smartie instantly!) - also planning usual pass parcel, parachute games in garden, treasure hunt (if I can work out how to do one: seems fiendishly complicated). Any tips/reassurance would be great!

put to paper a plan - its quite easy to wonder what to do next if you rely on your brain.

fill room with balloons and let them play with then whilst all the children arrive.

pass the parcel, musical statues and / or bumps

treasure hunt - hide chocolate coins / foil eggs (more easily available at the mo) and send children out to find five each. or split into three groups and hide an A4 picture that has been cut into jigsaw pieces (different colour background for each group), send children out to find their colour pieces and first team to put the jigsaw together wins the treasure.

make sure you have enough helpers and allocate tasks, especially keeping the drinks topped up and serviing food.

for food - I've found the best option has been to always prepare food to boxes and handout or serve up hotdogs. if you are doing a buffet - don't put the sweet stuff out until everyone has had some savoury otherwise you'll be throwing a lot in the bin.

and have the Wine in the fridge for five minutes after the last child leaves.

Thank you Twinklytoes! Putting a plan down sounds like a good idea. I do feel like I am going bit bonkers trying to remember all the various random games and activities we are going to do. Balloons in room great idea. And I love the puzzle treasure hunt idea - that is brilliant, will do that one for sure.
Party is in the morn so will prepare copious amounts of strong coffee, with beers in the fridge for later!
