Private party security(for your children)-good or bad idea?

Hello all..
Need a bit of advice. My dp has been in a security business for over 10 years, and whilst most of his work involves providing doormen for bars/venues,and personal security, over the last year he's been getting more and more requests for private parties, like birthdays, weddings etc.
So now...he wants to "branch out" and start doing security for children's parties as well...
My question is...is that a really good idea?I mean, would anyone pay for it?He did few of those already, where parents hired a hall for their teenagers and wanted an extra security, but I'm not really sure wether he should give it a proper go now, which is what he wants to do(paperwork,advertising...a lot of work, not to mention the cost),would it be worth it?What do you think?Good idea or destined to fail...any feedback very much appreciated!

My eldest goes to a posh school. His friends sometimes have private security, ususally guys from the local clubs or wherever. I used to laugh thinking it was way over the top but there are different "mobs" around here, that catch a party whiff and would just descend on the place. Talking about 30 plus kids, some OK, some really rough. Don't think littlies would want it but good idea for teens. Mind you, I did a party for 9 6/7 year olds yesterday, took them to the cinema. OMG, could I have done with some security.

I think it's a really good idea. If I had teens and they were having a party and I could afford it I would definitely hire someone to watch over. You hear much too often about homes and venues being trashed. It would be brilliant for peace of mind. You might find that venue or hotel owners would be interested too.

I agree with secondhandrose - it's a great idea for teens' big parties, if parents can afford it. So a lot depends on your prospective clients. Can they afford this service? Are you looking at the sort of area where people would hold big 'dos' for their children?

I have worked at various events over the years. We do security at everything from weddings to sports events. We do do a lot of private events but I have only done one teenage (16th)birthday. It was in the grounds of the parents house in a marquee. we did a cloak room facility, directing cars and general security.

Most of the time we are brought in by the venue or suggested to the orgainisers by the venue.

You will have to have enough "suitable" staff for this. We have a lot of staff that parents would probably not want keeping an eye on their darlings (bit rough)but we do also have enough staff that are suited to this kind of work.

Difficult to know where to advertise if you want to target parents. Most hotels etc will use in house security or will already have a contract with a company for function security. Maybe smaller venues like halls and pubs with function suites are places to target. Not sure if its something parents think about for teenage parties, maybe naively think their darlings don't need security.

ok...
Thank you all for your replies, looks like it could work out then
Anyway,it might prove fun watching him deal with the bunch of drunk teenagers in the future
