My DH will be 40 in Nov. Can't afford to hire a hall but we have a decent size house & I think we should have a party.

What good games etc have you seen done to get people talking to eachother. I can only think of the "Famous name sticker on your back, have to guess who you are" game.

Or should we stick to drinks, nibbles & chat?

What about a murder mystery dinner. A freind of mine did this for her DH's birthday.

You get invitations and everything in the pack. The one they had, on the invites it told them the name of the charactor they were to be and suggestions for their outfits.

You can buy kits second hand on e.bay for 4-400 guests. AS once you use it once you can't do the same one again with the same people.

What is Hawaii 4-0?

Murder mystery is good but a load of our friends did one recently. Also involves everyone arriving together!

If your garden is big enough, hire a sumo game from people who do bouncy castles. When I was 40 we had the sumo, the gladiator jousting and a bouncy castle shoe-horned into my garden. It was the funniest party I have ever been to - it was 3 years ago and people still say what a fab time they had. everyone spoke/played with everyone else and there was no standing around awkwardly after you've bounced on the castle in a sumo suit!!! (It looked like sumo porn, someone said.!! lol)

Wait until they are drunk (ish) and get them to play pass the orange without hands - you know, ornage usually held under chin and passed to next person's chin.

Chocoalte game is good for all ages IMO.

I love games at parties. What a good host you are to think of them.

How about a quiz with teams?
Or a treasure hunt?
There's a brilliant game which involve 2,3 or 4 teams. One person writes a list of things (It can be film titles, TV stuff, books or just things eg 'artificial insemination') then a rep from each team is shown the first item on the list, then has to draw it until one of his/her team members guesses. THEY then go to the list-person and tell them what they've just guessed. If correct the list person shows them item two and it's their turn to draw. All the teams continue (it's best if teams are in different rooms so they don't hear each other) and this continues until one team wins.

I love this. Can I come?
