dd is turning 5 soon - was thinking this year we'd have a small birthday tea for about 6-8 of her friends - boys and girls. I think it would be nice (ha ha last words) to do some kind of crafty activity that is fairly easy, not too expensive, will be completed/dry before home time and preferably with minimum mess e.g no glitter! Any ideas??

get thee onto
www.bakerross.co.uk

they have fab things that you could do with a group at a party.

How about a pirate party and they can all make and decorate hats?

Couple of borrowed pot plant palms, "Yo ho ho and a bottle of rum", "What shall we do with the drunken sailor", "Thou shalt have a fishie", "My bonnie lies over the ocean" and "Blow the man down" from a talented guitar-playing friend, lots of jolly rogers everywhere, and a treasure hunt to keep them amused

If you bake a sponge or fruit cake in a roasting tin with a jar in the middle, you get an island shaped cake with a hole for treasure in the middle Smile

You could do a princess/pirate theme as a compromise.

I did a jewellery party for Dd's 5th birthday (twas only girls though) and they loved it.

I bought a load of different beads and some coloured elastic from Yellow Moon and set them all out on the tables in little pots.

12 little girls were occupied for an hour and a half making necklaces, bracelets, hairbobbles, rings - you name it, they made it out of beads.

It was the easiest party I've ever done AND I didn't need to do party bags because they had all their bits to take home!

Kings and Queens? Or Fairies and Elves like in Ben and Holly?

scrappydappydoo · 16/01/2011 21:07

hmm - well I'm not to bothered about a 'theme' but I know pirates are def out - I did a big 'Princess DD1's Fancy Dress Ball' party last year to incorporate girlyness and the boys in her class but want low key this year - there is potentially only one boy but I don't want to exclude him with girlyness otherwise beads would be perfect - maybe put invites out and if he can't come do beads Grin

Decorate your own pizza?

Ice your own cupcake?

Salt dough? can be cooked in the microwave, apparently)

I am having a craft party for dd on Saturday.

They are decorating crowns and masks. I also got the little lunch boxes like happy meal boxes for them to colour.

No glitter this year though!

I had a boring day at work...

How about cheapo t-shirts from Primark/supermarket and a load of fabric pens?

If you want to do crafts with minimum mess try this link No mess party crafts
The crafts are based around colouring in and construction with pipe cleaners. No paint, glitter or glue needed. They have various themes, but we tried the monkey and giraffe one. They even come with a demonstration model which really gets the kids excited about having a go!
