Star Wars cake - any tips?

I've googled a few terrifyingly complicated ideas - am now planning to shove some Star Wars lego onto a plain white cake... any other brainwaves?

My previous two efforts have included a Bob the Builder cake(four figurines from ebay, slab of cake, green icing), and a fire engine (slab of cake, toy fire engine). This year's effort will be a Toy Story cake. No prizes for guessing how this will be accomplished! The trick is to present it as a thing of wonder!

Yep, it's the way to go isn't it. Hmm, maybe I could get the lego figures to hold birthday candles as 'light sabres'?

My DS has also requested a Star wars lego cake. I tried to do some practice sugarcraft models of c3po last week but it took longer than I expected. So I won't be making many of those then!

I've settled for a simplified landspeeder cake for next week. Will post a picture when I'm done.

I bought a lego cake topper on ebay. It was a personalised fondant icing circle - the size of the top of our cake - with lego characters, my ds name and happy birthday on it. It cost £4.95 or similar.

Trust your feelings...may the Force be with you.

this sort of thing

Your first idea sounds great...how about dark blue icing instead of white, with a pack of white chocolate cake decorating stars around the edge of the faultless lego Star Wars tableau? or you could use some edible glitter as stardust.
How about cutting the front 1/4 off a big round sponge to give a flat front, then put the candles in the space left there, stuck into big blobs/mashmallows of icing (if that makes sense) and this very swish and leaves the top free for the lego, the more the merrier!
They'll be so delighted once the canldes are lit, you're onto a winner whatever you do!

I think I'm going to make a lightsabre cake for DS's party.

Lots and lots of little swiss rolls all iced together and covered in some suitably neon coloured icing, with a larger section for the handle, iced in white with some silver glitter.

I'm hoping it will be little effort for quite a dramatic look because it'll be long!
