Party food without sandwiches

I'm intending on doing a food bag for DD's party, I'm thinking crisps, cherry tomatoes, choc biscuit, maybe grapes or other non-messy fruit. I don't want to do sandwiches because they get left, and what filling would suit everyone? But what to put instead?

would do raisins instead of grapes (less messy in case someone sits on the bag), lebkuchen (german gingerbread), bread sticks, cheese bread sticks

Breadsticks and a little pot of soft cheese or chocolate spread? You can get small pots with lids on eBay very cheaply.

Not worried about mess, it's a painting party and their venue :)

I like the breadsticks and dips idea. I was thinking of a trip to Makro but eBay is a much better idea.

Thanks!

Sausage roll, breadsticks, cheesy biscuits all make great alternatives to sandwiches.

Some cold chicken goujons/nuggets instead of sandwiches.

Baby bels/ cheese strings

Satsumas - I've used these in party boxes; those not eaten can go back in fruit bowl.

Satsumas is a good idea - I never think of buying them as DD won't go near them. But people like them, generally, don't they.

For DS's party, I did a pastry pin wheel thing. Get a sheet of ready rolled puff pastry, spread with pesto and cheese (think the recipe said to use bacon too but we're veggie so left it out), roll up lengthwise, cut into rounds and cook. They went down really well with all the kids.

That sounds good! DD also will not touch cheese, it seems wrong to do food she doesn't like, but I think it's going to go that way.

I made sandwiches and traditional party fare for years - itnever got ate
I have to go with Riven - bag of crisps, carton of drink and a satsuma [ to salve your conscience but most wont eat it] and the children will be delighted otherwise you will be just pleasing the parents

I usually stick a couple of plates of chopped up french stick on the table, if the kids don't eat it the parents will, if the parents don't eat it the birds will.... Grin

I always do food boxes which contain:

paper 'cornet' filled with savoury popcorn (or pkt mini-Pringles)
1 of those small, dip trays with cream cheese and mini grizzini sticks (or mini baby-belle)
small plastic carton of different melons cut up in to chunks/or mini bunch grapes
(in winter this could be small apple compote or fruit yoghurt)
1 sweet biscuit in funny shape
1 tiny cake (such as those tiny coconut 'twists')/or tiny pkt raisins (but watch the floor - nightmare if they get trodden in)
2 napkins
1 plastic fork
1 plastic teaspoon

Always goes down a treat!

hasten to add this is not for a party covering a meal time but just a snack. They each then get a choice of drinks (water or juice packs) throughout afternoon and a piece of cake later on of course.
