A website that you can put on your kids party invitation. This allows other parents log into there party webpage and donate money rather than bring a present to the party. The benefits are that the birthday boy/girl gets a better present of there own choosing or the parent/s. The parents of the guest kids dont have the hassle of going to the shops every other week to present and can just login and give what they would have spent on a present.

The present would then be brought to the party where the kid could open it.

Would appreciate thoughts / feedback on this. Would you use it? Which age group would it suit?

I wouldn't use it and I would appreciate being asked to use it. Sorry.

I find it too reminiscent of the whole wedding/giftlist/money grabbiness scene.

I'm sure some parents may appreciate it but I would much rather take my own offering. Also would the donation amounts be apparent to the birthday child's parents?

I wouldn't use it - my DC loves going to the shops to get the present. Also I don't have a credit card so online shopping is out for us.

geordieminx · 04/11/2010 21:22

Grabby and vulgar.

It means that others can see what you have spent, rather than being up to pick up a nice colouring book/toy for a couple of quid when you see it.

It also takes half of the fun out of going to a party armed with a present, and also as a child the thrill of "opening" a present.

A part of me would also wonder whether the child actually saw any of ten money, or whether it went on something for the parents.

Sorry, can't imagine anyone really thinking it's a good idea

No, I would not use this. Agree with Corvidae about seeming grabby.

No, I wouldn't.

Definitely not use it. DD loves to choose presents for her friends and I think that that is a really good experience: choosing something nice for somebody else, then nicely wrapping it and making a card. This way the kids get lots of different things, the parents might never even have thought about ...

I'm aware of one of these services - called timto I think - but I wouldn't personally use it. I think children like to give a present and receive something wrapped at their parties personally.
I might use it to give some cash to a nephew or neice who I wasn't going to see over their birthday though.
