Right I've decided there's no way I'm going to let DS1 have his 5th birthday with "No" party at all (his birthday is on saturday . I'm thinking of inviting over 2 of his friends that we still see from nursery and perhaps a couple of his 'new' friends from school.

I can make cakes, so I'll make some fairy cakes and a sponge cake for his birthday cake, I can also do flapjack and biscuits. I can't afford to do anything fancy. But I think I've talked DH into a budget of £20 and eek.

What can I do that cheap and will be enjoyed by about 7 or 8 4/5yr olds?

I have also done a ice cream factory, big cheap tub of ice cream, smallest bowls you have, couple of bags of supermarkets own cheapy sweets buttons and jelly tots, bottle of sauce and tub of sprinkles. Put sweets into tubs and provide very small spoons/ scoops so they don't get carried away. Did this with 5yr olds and they were very restrained.

ok - nearly sorted for the party tomorrow. This is the food we're having. Have I missed any 'serious' traditioinal party food off!

Birthday Cake
Fairy Cakes
Cookies
Flapjack
Popcorn
Dip with celery, carrots and cherry tomatoes (got to make it look like we're all healthy )
Strawberry Jelly (when did Rowntree's stop making jelly - most disappointed that I had to buy "hartley" )
Grapes
Chocolate Angel Delight
Squash (Orange, and Apple and Blackcurrant)

Got a massive bag of lollipops for 'prizes' for the games (well pass the parcel I splashed out for - bought a 99p pack of colouring pencils from WIlko's )
Balloons
Pin the nose on the clown
Party hats, poppers and masks
Party bags (for the cake and balloon - don't do 'trashy' bags )
Paper plates
Napkins
Plastic Cups

Going to have 'music' playing in the background - which is the worst, a Children's Choice CD, or a vast selection of music from 60's to modern??

Have I missed anything crucial??

BTW - it's 2pm tomorrow - so plenty of time for me to rush out and get things if I've forgotten something crucial (everything I've got so far came in at £16
