Treasure hunt tips?

I'd like to do a really good treasure hunt for ds's 7th birthday party. We'll have a small outside area and not many places to hide things. Is it impossible?? Any ideas that you've liked gratefully received.

Maybe get a lot of boxes (from supermarket), different sizes. Under some you put a treasure, others have nothing.

Ooh I like that dikkertjedap. Have you done that yourself?

No, but it is a cheap and easy way to create hiding places.

Depending on the reading abilities, what about starting off with some simple clues? E.g. "where do we bath?" they all rush off to the bathroom where the treasure is and along with it find the next clue. You support as required! That way you get them to go is somesort of direction. Make it as hard or as easy as you think appropriate.

I while ago I came across a site which I used to make a treasure hunt with. Having a quick look it has some children's clues and garden clues that you might be able to use to put a simple treasure hunt together with.

Let us know how it goes,
Roberta

p.s. I just noticed some Halloween clues, I might try a halloween treasure hunt myself this year.

I used this in the summer, fantastic, and it comes with all the prizes, can't recommend it highly enough.
