Halloween Party Games?

My DD's (10) have requested a Halloween party this year (actually, I think they have already told their friends they're having one) - I'm thinking about it.

Does anyone have any ideas for Halloween games which would occupy a group of 10 year old girls for a couple of hours?

Last year I got a really good Halloween CD - it's got all the old faves on, Ghostbusters, Monster Mash etc. Lots of musical games perhaps?

Not sure how coold 10 year olds are these days as I have two boys a bit younger but last year we had brilliant fun doing the "mummy" game - basically you go into pairs and wrap each other up in loo roll so you look like an egyptian mummy! Prizes to the most neatly wrapped! I bought loads of value loo roll, half the fun is breaking out of the loo roll afterwards!!

Pumpkin carving - or decorating if you prefer.

Apple bobbing - either in water or hang the apple on a string and you have to try to eat it with hands behind back.

Making toffee apples?

Murder in the dark or other spooky games?

Sorry that should say "cool" not "coold"!!

Thank you LuckyYou. If I feel I can fill a couple of hours I may be include to give them the go ahead. The mummy game sounds good.

'Nelson's Eye' or other games where you stick your hand into unseen stuff.

Warning - This game will get lots of screams and laughs from the kids. This one is best for more grown up kids.

What you need

  • A Hat (ideally one like Nelson would have worn) but a beret would work
  • A coat made of wool or cloth
  • Oranges cut in half
  • A blindfold

Get the kids to queue up outside the door and ask them to wait until they are called. They have to be blindfolded before they come in and come in one at a time.

You then tell the child that you have been able to get hold of Admiral Nelson's body. You then say "This is Admiral Nelson's hat" and hand the child his hat.

You then say "This is Admiral Nelson's coat" and hand the child his coat.

Then take their hand and let them feel your bare elbow and say "This is Admiral Nelson's stump after his arm was blown off".

Then take hold of the childs hand and forefinger and say "This is Admiral Nelson's eye" as you poke the childs finger into squishy bit of the orange.

The child will scream and the rest of the room will roar with laughter. Quickly rip of the blindfold so that the child will see the joke.

The children that have been tricked can stay in the room to see the next victim.

Or this one:

It needs a small amount of preparation, but is well worth the effort. You need to prepare a number of items and place them on a table either hidden inside shoe boxes (with a hand hole cut in the side) or simply under separate tea towels. All the party guests stand outside the door and are brought into the (darkened) room one-by-one to feel the items on the table and guess what they could be. The most effective items are as follows:

2 hard boiled and shelled eggs (these will feel like eyeballs).
1 rubber glove (preferably the thin transparent kind) filled with flour and secured at the arm end with a
rubber band.

(This feels remarkably like a human hand, if you put enough flour inside.)
1 old wig (feels horrible in the dark)
plate of cold cooked spaghetti
a piece of pumpkin cut into the shape of an ear
1 raw sausage (you'll obviously need to wash your hands after this.)

There are lots of other things that you can do. It's most fun to pretend people are feeling various body parts - especially as it's Halloween. The best way to play this game is by encouraging the most hysterical guest to play first. Their shrieks only add to the tension felt by those waiting outside the door!
