I had thought about getting DD a dolls' house for her 3rd birthday, but the one I liked by John Lewis has been discontinued and others I've seen are less nice and more expensive. I like the Ikea kitchen but she has a play kitchen at school. Has anyone seen anything nice for girls this age, or have any other ideas? Am thinking of paying up to 100 quid if necessary. She has lots of friends with birthdays coming up so need some cheaper ideas too. Totally at a loss - please help!

i bought the dolls house from Toys r us - it comes with all the furniture and is around £50 (I think they do specials on it for this price)
HOw about a (balance) bike?

Bumperlicious · 16/09/2010 10:12

A scooter? The Mini Micro one's are fab!

As for friends I tend to buy stuff in the sales. Last 2 presents were a book (bogof) and a beaded bracelet each. I find things like plastic drinking bottles, perhaps with a carry strap, with their favourite characters are quite good presents, fun for the kids and practical for the parents.

I second a scooter if she hasn't got one already. My DD's turning 3 next month and I'm a bit stuck for ideas too. I'm probably going to end up with lots of little things rather than one big thing IYSWIM. I'm thinking books, a little puppet theatre, lego, playmobil stuff etc.

thanks. She does have that scooter already actually, and her grandparents made her a balance bike from a second hand bike with fixed pedals that they removed, but she's still a wee bit small for that. I'll check out the Toys'r'us doll's house, thanks.

Someone on here came up with a genius idea which I am going to copy for Christmas, a basket with lots of dressing up stuff in it, sourced mainly from charity shops.

RamblingRosa · 16/09/2010 10:34

Oooh yes, dressing up stuff is a good idea. I was planning to get some from ELC.

Ineedsomesleep · 16/09/2010 10:39

DD was 3 in August and this was a big hit.

We decided to get her some small presents just because we couldn't think of a single big present she needed.

We also got her some of the Peppa Pig play stuff and this boardgame which she loves.

A toy dressing table with accessories - dress-up jewellery plus play hair-dryer and make-up.

Or a play shop and till.

peachygirl · 17/09/2010 20:24

Dressing up is massive with DD and her friends at the moment.

ELC Happy street/ land is also popular. DD1 also has a scooter which she plays with almost every day.

Playfood and shopping stuff too.

Mummygoesbananas · 17/09/2010 21:36

I have also bought the toys'r'us dolls house and both my dd's (5 and 3) love it. But admit its quite plain, ELC do some lovely ones but can end up costing quite a bit by the time you've bought all the furniture etc.
Agree with peachygirl about the dressing up also, little girls love it at any age

Think we're going with the toys-r-us doll's house and some dressing up stuff. Thanks everyone, really helpful!
