Have been invited very last minute to a black tie do with a Bollywood theme (why make it themed if it's black tie?Confused

Have no indian inspired clothes already so am going to have to go shopping, was thinking about getting some henna and a fake nose stud any other ideas? Also need to sort DH and he is being none too helpful!
Am popping out to toddler group but will check back later.

Right, what size/build are you?

Is this so last-minute that you will have to visit actual shops, or is there time to shop online? If the former, what shops do you have access to?

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 11/08/2010 14:23

Oh and budget?

Can you afford new shoes/jewellery as well? If not, what have you already got in the evening shoe department?

hurrah! someone to help me!
Am short and petite (5ft 2, size 8/10)
This Saturday so online pushing it. Have access to normal high street shops, Debenhams, not a high indian population so unfortunately no specialist shops that I can remember.
Could do shoes and jewellery as long as not too hideous so I could wear again.

wow that makeup link is great thanks.
May have to splash out on a better foundation to ensure the "flawless" look!

I'd not try to go too OTT Bollywood. There doesn't seem to be as much Bollywood-influenced stuff in the shops at the moment, anyway. If it were me I'd start with getting a good colour (hot pink, orange, turquoise) and good accessories and makeup, rather than on trying to find an officially "Bollywood" style of dress.

Possibly (looking at Debenhams)

this dress (or possibly this one)

with these earrings

and bangles -- possibly a couple of sets of these or mix and match with what looks good at the time

and mix with high heeled strappy sandals/shoes (you'll need to look at colours together)

Although they are out of stock in your size in that particular dress online, but might still have it in store.

In general I would take the approach of

  • find good dress in right colour -- not too short, not particularly full, not strapless, possibly with asymmetric neckline, possibly with interesting draping (I suppose my ideal in-head dress here is something like [[www.net-a-porter.com/product/32077 Alexander McQueen's drape-front dress, although that is not available any more and out of budget anyway)
  • find shoes in same/toning/metallic colour
  • find bangles and chandelier earrings that either pick up the same colour or add in other good colours (e.g. hot pink if the dress is turquoise, orange if the dress is hot pink) and metallic (preferably gold if it suits you)
  • then get hair and makeup right

wow thank you! Have you done this before?

Would you like to dress my husband...he wants to be a Bollywood actor on his day off?!!
