Friend's 50th birthday present?

So I screwed up royally by not reminding DH that it was my close friend's 50th birthday, and that she was having a big party at home. He went off and booked a wedding anniversary trip for us, non-refundable so we absolutely can't make her party next month.

She's a good friend. A bit OTT at times, but she does have a difficult relationship with her husband who can be hard work. So what do I get her for her birthday that doesn't look like a "guilt" present (although I do feel guilty of course that we are missing her party), but more like a "now you're entering the next exciting phase of your life" present? Her husband is unlikely to get her jewellery unless he gets hit on the head between now and next month, but I feel jewellery is more the husband's preserve anyway. I'd like to get something personal, not a gift voucher.

All ideas gratefully received - am feeling brain dead.

There are some brilliant websites around (computer playing up, wont let me link them) that you can make up photo albums on. They get posted to you and look professional.

You upload the photos, collage them, or have a whole one to a page etc put effects on them (black and white, borders etc) and even add captions.

You could do one of you 2 over the last x years or of her and her DC's etc.

I got one for my friend when she moved to Australia last year, she loved it!

Ooh I like this game!

But more info needed. What is she into?

My Publisher is a good website to use, you can download the software free and the deluxe book is around $60. They ship to the uk as well Smile

A photo album is a fabulous idea except that I'm the person who doesn't take photos.....I've probably only got about five of her in total! But it has made me think about asking her DH for some older photos of her - that way I can also check to make sure he's putting fairy lights in the garden - a particular request of the birthday girl.

If anything else springs to anyone's mind, please go ahead and suggest. Still brain dead.

MrsG, we need some clues as to what she likes!

Cooking?
Travel?
Reading?
Fashion?
Outdoors?
Gadgets?

I was 50 recently, and I'm sorry MrsG cause you said 'not jewellery', but my best pressie was a trollbead bracelet and beads: DH bought me the silver braclet and clasp, then all my family and friends bought me a bead each. It's a lovely, lovely bracelet; every bead reminds me of someone I love.

Sorry, must be a bit late, didn't finish last post properly, and anyway, it's not really relevant at all ! oops Blush

Theatre tickets or lunch together so that you spend some time together as you can't make the party. And then just a token gift.
