I need to get a christening present for my friends DD who is about 8 months old. I'm broke at the moment so it needs to be something cheap but cheerful. What can I get?

a framed picture?
not sure how "cheap" you mean but you can get some nice children's ones in John Lewis for around £25.

or a number of jewellery shops will be having sales at the moment so how about a charm that can be used on a bracelet when she's older or perhaps used as a pendant on a chain (am sure you can get someting for around £20?)

not sure if that helps - i've always been the type to get "adult" presents for our godchildren as the "baby" stuff is only used for a few years. good luck with your search.

Thanks ohcobblers.

I like the idea of getting an adult present so to speak. I was thinking of getting her a book because certain companies personalise the stories with names etc but I also then thought about getting her a regular book but one with a meaning around independence and love etc in the hope that she will recognise those qualities and aspire to have them. I have no idea on the book though which is a major down fall!!!

Garden centres and gift shops do those tiny gift books for special occasions with meaningful quotes etc in (Helen Exley books I think). Would be a nice little gift to keep.

tooth fairy box about £10

We have given and received these - the pewter ones are better than the silver ones as they don't tarnish. We had a nice teddy bear one - just googled teddy bear ones but they are about £25.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I went with alice in wonderland but it's a book your personalise so the girl it's for will be the main characters and you can pick family and friends to be the other main characters. They also accepted paypal which was handy as I had no money in my bank account
