My son has been driving for just a year. Never driven on motorway and he and his friends driving 3 hours to Akron towers tomorrow. Girlfriend has driven on motorways but won’t drive now because of period and the fact they are setting off early. I am worried as he hasn’t been sleeping well lately because of university choices etc. last night he didn’t seem really happy about driving.
need advice . He seems a bit nervous understandably but I i don’t know what to advise him.advice asap please

Cornwall still doesn’t have motorways

Some parts of the UK are stuck in the 50s! Where I grew up only had one stretch of motorway up one side of the county, which you would never need to use. Barely any dual carriageways either.

I agree but I can’t think of any within 3 hours drive of Alton towers?

I find this strange too but there are no motorways in Cornwall or Dorset and the M5 terminates halfway through Devon so it very easy to drive for twelve months without having driven on a motorway although I find it strange not to have driven on a dual carriageway.

In some respects it is much easier to drive when then traffic is only going in one direction.

Why did the gf need to be useful during the drive? She was a passenger, all she can do to be ‘useful’ is relax and not distract the driver.

Glad it turned out ok, op - sounds like he’s got a sensible friend which is good.

I drove to Scotland alone (from the midlands) three weeks after passing my test?? Driving on a motorway isn’t rocket science?!

Just to let you all know. My son did drive but one of his friends did the sat nav and was another set of eyes on the road girlfriend pretty useless home safely❤️

“Did the sat nav”? Can your son not drive and do the sat nav? Apart from the odd occasion, everyone apart from the driver is useless in a car. If he drove there and back in a day, it is quite the task. I do it often and am always tired by the end but nothing worth mentioning.

Glad it went well.

Good prompt for your son to get some extra lessons. A couple of post test ones on wider skills will make the world of difference.

You’re not allowed on the motorway as a learner.

Since 2018, yes they are, with a driving instructor.
