A Reminder: You’re Doing Better Than You Think

One thing I’ve learned is that it’s okay not to have everything under control all the time. Some days are messy, overwhelming, and full of doubts and that’s completely normal. Try not to compare yourself to others, especially what you see online. You’re doing better than you think, and what your child needs most is your presence, not perfection

Nice but context is needed.
If your adult children don’t contribute to rent and bills and you’re still doing everything for adults that are 18 and over you’re not doing okay.

Heh.My adult children don't contribute to rent and bills. My own choice though. Not all cultures take rent.

They do cook and clean.

They do need perfection though. You read on here about adults cutting their parents off because they’re not perfect. Or Mothers-in-law who have the audacity to ask questions about their grandchildren are considered ‘pushy’ and ‘interfering’ because they’re have no rights to know anything about their grandchildren, and god forbid they try to offer advice to a struggling parent…

I do sometimes wonder what it was all for. Would they bother with us at all if it wasn’t for the inheritance? Sometimes it gets really hard to keep smiling, keeping your hurt under wraps, and concentrating on their needs when you feel like running for the hills.

In real life I don't know anyone who has gone NC!
