Ex is a fraudster

I just don't cope with this man being part of my adult childrens' lives. He has recently found to have taken money from another of his offspring via his PIP payments over the years. Ex was looking after son's money, but turns out he's stolen money, and claimed a brand new motobility car to take his son around, but son has nothing to do with his dad.

Why does this matter? Ex also has my child's PIP money and sends her money when she asks for it. She is mid 20s and vulnerable, and bad with money.

Other things my ex does?
Claims to be a medical professional, yet has no medical qualifications
Is claiming benefits whilst working for two charities, one is NHS
DD found an NHS lanyard, blue lights fitted, night vision goggles (in his brand new car stolen from his son).

I've reported him to the police, but so far nothing has come from it.

I've asked my adult kids to not mention their dad to me as it triggers me. What else can I do? All suggestions welcome.

Just letting you know you can see your exes name and photo even though you have tried to hide it.

Can you intervene in your child's PIP? Have the money sent to an account in her name where you can control the transactions? Is he acting as an appointee for his kid's PIP?

Realistically, if you’ve reported him and your children are over 18, all you can do is try to remove yourself as much as possible from the situation.

My ex (now deceased) was a fraudster to and even to this day I’m worried something will pop up somewhere with my name on it that I don’t even know about. It sucks.

I agree - I have asked my children to not tell me the things he does and I don't want to know about it. - They understand.

@Bingbopboomboomboombopbamhave you done a credit check on yourself? You’d be surprised how many people gave CCJs that they know nothing about. Doing a credit check should put your mind at rest Flowers

I’m assuming your adult child doesn’t have capacity? Because if they do then the PIP should be paid directly to them not your ex.

Is your ex their carer?

Bingbopboomboomboombopbam · 18/03/2025 07:17

@BunnyRuddington it was in a different country that doesn’t use credit checks, that’s why I never really knew what to do about it.

He’s been deceased for 10+ years now and I live in a different country, so I’m hoping whatever he may have done has gotten lost by now. He did rack up a huge phone bill in my name that eventually I received (phoning all over the world) but I sorted it, ended up paying.

I would also report to the ambulance service he's purporting to work for. It's a crime.

I’d report him to whoever the PIP is paid by.
