My 26 year old left yesterday to travel to Bali/Australia. I have always encouraged travel and adventure but this has hit me HARD, obviously I knew I'd be emotional but I just can't shake this, it almost feels like grief which I know sounds silly. Anyone got any advice

Not really got any advice other than to say I know how you feel. How long have they gone for?

DD goes off for around a month at a time but this summer is planning to go for 3 months to Asia. On her own. She has health issues so I am worried, that she gets poorly and is on her own at the other side of the world. But she can't live her life not doing what she wants to do in case she gets ill, but she has the potential to be quite vulnerable if she has an episode (goes semi conscious and appears drunk). I am going to buy her a medic alert bracelet!

I can understand that. I find it hard sometimes when my DC1 is away at Uni and it's less than 2 hours away.

How long have they gone for?

Mine went to New Zealand 6 weeks ago and he's just shy of 19! I'm so proud of him but have to tell myself not to bombard him with WhatsApps all the time. It's hard isn't it but I think at least we've got easy communication these days. My mum had to wait a fortnight for the first postcard to drop on the mat when I went interrailing. They are building their independence and resilience.. a Good Thing.

My dd left April 2024 for 6 months Vietnam and Australia. She is now working in Melbourne having travelled the up and down the east coast. I miss her so much but am in awe of her too. Just got a house share after months of hostel living so putting down roots for 6 months.

My dd is talking about going to Lombok (Indonesia) and I feel sick whenever I think about it. She's 19 but always been young for her age, I'm really struggling with the idea of her going so far away.

@Girliefriendlikespuppies please encourage your daughter to look at the website Just Don't Drink Spirits in Bali. It relates to methanol poisoning from unsafe alcohol which has killed young people in Indonesia and elsewhere. And check the foreign office advice also for travelling in Indonesia.

I don't say this to panic you. It's important for her to know what's safe and what isn't.

Thanks @highlandcooluckily dd has changed her mind at going to Lombok and is going to Greece island hopping instead which feels much better for me!

I expect the desire to travel further won’t go away though so I will bare your advice in mind if she does go to Indonesia.
