hello! I hope that this is ok here,

im not a parent of an adult child (my children are both under 3) - but I was wondering, what can I get my parents and in laws for Christmas?
money is tight, I’ve asked them what they want but everything they want they just go out and buy!

so I’m really just looking for ideas, what gifts have made you happy in previous years?
im thinking of making up a hamper for my mum, but just wanted ideas

thank you!

I'd like something inexpensive but beautifully thought through.

My parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary around Christmas time. I am thinking of getting them a relationship doodle maps which is a personalized handmade road map of key point in their marriage. They look really cool one of my son's friends parents had one in their kitchen and it was just really interesting to look at. I have found a few on Etsy but this one seems to be the best they also do it for pregnancy journeys and baby mile stones. www.etsy.com/uk/shop/CustomDoodleMap

My three sons get up together and get a calendar made with photos of us, the boys and their wives but mainly our six grandchildren throughout the year.
everyone’s birthdays are highlighted.
we love it ❤️

I’m mid 50’s and my DC are mid 20’s to mid 30’s. I honestly don’t need anything, I tell my DC this but as they want to buy me something then I suggest a nice hand cream or mini bottle of Prosecco with a few chocolates or a candle in a gift box.

My favourite gift recently was what my Dd did for Mothers Day. She came to visit for the day, bringing the ingredients for a delicious dinner she cooked for us. She also brought a plant she’d grown from a cutting from one of hers.

How about a digital photo frame with some family photos pre-loaded?

My Dsis & I gave our dad one of these - we both have apps on our phones that we can use to add new photos. He loves it & often talks about which photos are coming up when we phone him.

Yes to 'posh consumables'!

DS and his girlfriend bring big bars of Tony's chocolate when they come to stay 😀

I appreciate things that they know I'm doing/using. DS bought me a one-year subscription to the NewYorkTimes Games app as he and I often swap our scores first thing in the morning (it's often the only 'proof of life' I get!😥)
Little tech things they know more about than me, so magnetic phone chargers, or cool cable tidies etc.

Please don't buy experience vouchers for things like gin tours/ hot air balloon trips as they often turn out to be a pain to redeem!
My adult children bought me a gin tour, but our localish place stopped doing them before I had a chance to go, then the nearest was a 6 hour round trip away. I then had to go through a painful process of trying to swap the voucher for something else and the only thing available locally was a fairly mediocre pub lunch (of course we told them it was lovely!).
Also some vouchers have a shockingly short validity period.

6 month voucher to our local cinema for over winter has been a hit though!
And Theatre Tokens are good as they have no expiry and are widely accepted.

I am notorious for asking for "weird" things! I gave my Son and DDiL an idea and she came back with "your presents get more random every year!"
I love her to bits but was that comment really necessary? If she doesn't want to give me it then that's fine but, she knows, I wouldn't dream of deviating from the lists she gives me for her and GDC.

I agree with almost everyone else.

I am trying to declutter and definitely do not want 'stuff' coming in to the house, so something like my favourite chocolates suits me fine.
If your finances allow, then a meal out with you or a voucher for afternoon tea would be something I'd love.
