Have 2 sons 28 & 25. Youngest married with a newborn. Eldest single and lives at home. He’s always been quiet and introvert. Moved out 7 years ago with a couple friends to a house share. We visited a few times but very little communication from him, if I asked him how he was I’d get one word answers.
he came home after a year as the friends were moving on.
Hes been in a settled job and now is looking to get his own place. If I ask him about it i feel like I’m irritating him just get a “yeah” with an annoyed tone to his voice. He’s never wanting to spend time with us always in his room. Try to include him when we go out but never wants to go.
he’s always been quiet and prefers his own company but these past few months it’s like he just hates being in our company. I’ve asked him if he’s ok but again just get a grunted “yeah”. Not really sure what I can do. I don’t want to irritate him anymore by keep asking him but I am worried about him.

Your son sounds just like mine! I wish I knew some advice to give you but I don't I'm afraid. I also worry about him as he seems sad/depressed a lot of the time, although he says that he is not. I think he just says that so that I will leave him alone hahaha. If you find out any ideas to try please let me know!

how, what, when, where, why, who, which

ask open questions then they can’t just reply with ‘yeah’
could you not go out to the cinema or theatre together? Spend some time together.

He's 28, not 12! He needs his own place, clearly, and absolutely doesn't need his parents fussing round him. Please, OP, just leave him alone.

At least he has plans to move out. We are stuck with one just

like this who is 19 and shows no signs of moving out or supporting himself.

Hi. Yeah he goes cinema with his dad but says he still doesn’t say much. We always ask him if he wants to do anything or come with us to places but he’d rather stay at home.
