Adults of children with ASD who, for want of a better phrase, are not very functional

DS16 is bright but not functioning much. His has been very mentally unwell but currently according to his doctors 🙄 all of his current symptoms fit with very low functioning asd. At home he would wash and go out for a walk, in hospital He has stopped both of those. Education happening in neither environment. Unsurprisingly his doctors want to discharge him.

Social services want to discharge to home. Due to previous violence I am concerned about this And have currently said 52 week residential asd school.

They have reassured me there will be a package of support with 24 hour care, but I have some doubt how long this is likely to last.

but if I'm brutally honest I really don't think an ASD school is in his best interests (although it is undoubtedly in mine). Any provision based on his "asd" has been a disaster

He is unlikely to ever live in anyway independently.

If you have an adult child Please may I ask what support you have had from social services? Where do they currently live?

God I really feel for you. DC2 is on the pathway but hasn't been violent towards us for a long time.

I can't imagine being trapped between not wanting them home, quite understandably, and worrying about a placement for them. It all sounds so very, very hard.

I hope you get someone along soon, if not, I'd try posting in the SN Teens section Flowers

My brother has autism and learning disabilities. He lives in a Mencap care home. It's brilliant

Stick to your guns and don't be bullied by social services. Try and have a look at some residential places.
It's bloody hard.
