Ok before I start .. yes I should be 'harder on them' but that is not my mindset..

Just wondering who finds their 'adult' kids more expensive now than ever .. ?

School trips , parties etc were tricky .. I am a single parent household (step DH and I live apart for reasons of his MH and my sanity )

But this year alone .. Uni contribution, rent deposits , to name but a few .. and yes I know I don't HAVE to pay them but I WANT to..

Anyone else ?

I made my uni kids work PT, so they were paying some themselves, but yes, so expensive.

Not only do I find them more expensive, I find them harder work than they ever were when they were younger 🙄

Absolutely to working part time ! Mine have all done so from age 14 but there are times when it's not appropriate.

I find it especially unfair that University is now divided down the middle with those that can devote all their time to Uni and their studies whilst mine have to work a huge amount of hours to make ends meet and will inevitably be disadvantaged in their degree outcome because of it.
I can't change the completely crappy system that penalises the poor at university by not taking the massive hike in rental costs into account - but I can make it easier for my eldest to get the most out of his last year by me taking on an extra job to pay his rent rather than him.(I'm not studying for exams and my earning power is far greater )

It's only until May but a couple of my friends think it's stupid to do this. Whereas I think it is just pragmatic and practical. What do you think ?

I think it depends entirely on how much loan he's entitled to.
