Private GP for my university child

Hi, has anyone got a private GP plan for their uni going children? My DD has left for uni last week and while I know she is very responsible and takes care of herself, I wonder if I should get a private GP plan just in case if she needs anytime? I have had terrible experiences with local GP, I hope things are different at her uni but don't want to take chances. She is susceptible to stress from her academics and that's also a concern for me.

Does the university not have its own GP/surgery? If it's a campus university I would expect one. If not, then I'd expect the university to have links with a close-by practice. Surely far better for her/you not to have to pay?!

Hasn't she registered with a GP near uni?

Both mine registered there. Both had GPs actually on campus.

Is there a campus GP? Back in the day ours was dedicated to students and was fantasticon mental health and young adult health, of course this could have changed!

If you want to pay for private healthcare for your daughter you can.
If you can easily afford it then it lessens the load in the NHS I suppose!

No one on here can tell you what her local NHS practice is like.

Assuming she’s your average 18/20year old student you should encourage her to look into these things herself- enrolling with a dentist would also be useful.

I believe they do, and I am definitely going to make sure she is registered with them. Additionally, wanted to check if private was necessary. We are new in the UK and given my past experience with local GP wasn't very good, I wanted to get views of others here. Thank you BIWI

Thanks for your thoughts ladies, she says she has come across GP registration as one of the to-do tasks in her first week in uni but she clearly seemed to have deprioritised it. Good to know many of you relied on campus GP and I will give it a go too. fingers crossed this experience will be different.

An additional reason to use the university gp service is that if she needs to apply for extensions for submitted work due to illness, they will understand the nature of the information the university requires.

DD is with campus GP, but she is also inc. in our work BUPA cover. She has found it super convenient as you can get appointments within a couple of hours and also in the evening.
