Thread 47- Covid GCSE Cohort - Summer's running away from us!

1000 replies

OrangeCinnamonLatte · 05/07/2023 19:38

...it will be Christmas before we know it.

This is a support thread for our young adults post GCSEs 2020, regardless of their educational setting, and their results ( or life updates for those who went into work or have had results earlier). It is respectfully requested that all are supportive and helpful to each other. If you want to start a debate, e.g state vs private, uni vs employment please don't within this thread.

Some of us have been here since first thread back in yr10, some will be new. Everyone has been friendly and helpful in the past. Everyone is welcome. It is hoped this will continue. We were previously on the secondary board and then further education, now we shall be here in 'Parents of Adult Children' gulp

Our DS/DD may continue down various pathways ( employment, apprenticeships, higher ed). Experience is that everyone is welcomed wherever, whatever their child is doing we have some in work, gap years , apprenticeships etc too. Lots of contributors with different experiences and always sympathy and advice to be had.

@Monkey2001 Fabulous photo. He has a creative eye.

@Oblomov23 Great news on the results.

DS and I are just back from a quick whizz to London. We went to see We Will Rock You which was a lot of fun. The highlight though was a day at Wimbledon.

Talking concerts, I know a few people who went to see Bruce Springsteen last week. Made me feel ancient as I went to see him on the Born in the USA tour. Don't think I've been to a concert since DS was born. Agree @ealingwestmum about blue loos.

craggyrat · 15/07/2023 08:08

Great results @Oblomov23

DS has got a room change for next year. About £1k less so that’s good. He is still on the list for cheaper, especially as I will be on sick pay with surgery etc etc but he has told College about that and they are fantastic welfare-wise for him.

Busy week this week. Work, Yorkshire Show, which was amazing, and first hospital appointment. The joined up service for breast cancer is very impressive. Have got a gym round the corner for pre operative fitness classes and waiting to hear about my complimentary therapies! Honestly I feel such a fraud when I feel perfectly normal. Thank God for NHS screening. All this change in less than a month since routine mammogram is overwhelming to be honest. Am already on various pre surgery tablets and surgery looks like early august.

I loved my day at the Show with a friend. The parade of cattle may not sound exciting , but my word it is! And Lorenzo and his horses definitely worth a Google! So nice to have a normal day and a laugh.

Lovely update Craggy

EwwSprouts · 15/07/2023 12:40

@craggyrat Pleased you had a fabulous day out. The joined up services sounds very promising for good care. It has come on in leaps and bounds. Post surgery you might want to look at Nordic walking it's thought to be better than your garden variety. https://gmwalking.co.uk/nordic-walking-with-after-breast-cancer-diagnosis-abcd/

craggyrat · 15/07/2023 12:58

Thanks @EwwSprouts that's a great idea. I know there's a local group so will check it out

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2023 08:24

DS has finished his work experience with at least four published articles!

I didn't want to out him or myself but if you look at the Bedfordshire News website front page, I think you'll spot his latest article!

Disclaimer : grammatical errors in the subhead copy and under the picture are not his!!

crazycrofter · 16/07/2023 09:15

Aw well done to ds @Piggywaspushed , that’s great! Has it confirmed that it’s the line of work he wants after uni?

Thats great news about your treatment @craggyrat

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2023 09:17

Yes, seems to have ditched civil service crazy.

mummyinbeds · 16/07/2023 09:34

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2023 09:41

Monkey2001 · 16/07/2023 10:20

Bravo Piglet!

singingstones · 16/07/2023 10:31

Very well done to him Piggy, and good to see your cooking acknowledged in print!

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2023 10:37

Umm, yeah. Who knew Loyd Grossman sauces from jars and McCain Oven Chips were such a draw...?

Comefromaway · 16/07/2023 11:04

Fantastic article

Piggywaspushed · 16/07/2023 11:26

Thanks everyone. I think he's quite pleased.

He has paid the princely sum of £10 to the university newspaper as some sort of joining fee. I have told him not to let any cliques ignore him. He is aware journos can be quite irritating...

craggyrat · 16/07/2023 12:05

Great article @Piggywaspushed !

Oblomov23 · 16/07/2023 16:15

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 16/07/2023 21:11

Yes do that for sure!
