Teens going into adulthood

Hi all,

Hope everyone is well. Im calling out to parents of teens, please.

I am a mother of twins and I still have a while before my children are teens although I would love some advice.

I understand that many teens going into college/ leaving college are unsure about some basic key aspects of their future. This includes how to calculate taxes, employment law, mortgages and so on.

So I have a team of professionals within these areas and would like to know if parents and teens would benefit from a course, focusing on these things to support their future?

Any advice/ tips and feedback is very welcomed.

I think financial literacy is really important, but honestly speaking, I think it would be quite hard to engage teenagers on the topics that you've mentioned. Some might be up for it, but for most, it will probably feel too distant to be relevant.

Hi @AlexaShutUp,

Yes definitely financial literacy would be on the agenda.

Yes, I've had much of the same feedback. Thank you!

Sounds fantastic.
For eg our dd has a job which was quite hard to get in the pandemic. So she had to accept less hours than she wanted and claims help towards rent from benefits. No one has ever claimed in out family before and we have no idea how it works as her rent is above what they pay for rent so there is always a shortfall as her costs are not met. She is living on about £ 20 a week due to this . As what used to be , i presume, housing benefit does not cover the rent at all . It seems a minefield .
In addition ,when I went to uni many moons ago , my parents did not discuss money .. i recall being utterly bewildered. . Some families do not talk about money so I think it would be a great package!

My experience is that they want to know about these things at the specific point that they become relevant to them, which is different for each child. I've found it very hard to engage them or teach them any of this stuff at any other times as they're just not interested.
