Hello as title says really, I have a 3year old that is slightly delayed with some aspects of speech and is stimming basically.

So I've rang my HV and with previous 5yo I thought they still came out when toddlers turned 3 just before they start school. She gave me no inclination she was coming to see us and when I gave my concerns for DC she gave me the number for speech and language to self refer.

So my question is in Wales what is the process? DC has speech issues but it's also the stimming (DC smacks themself, grinds teeth and has sensory issues) do they deal with that too?

If I'm honest I felt a little let down because she didn't try make me feel better, explain anything and I just want to cry. DC starts school in September so I feel really panicked o can't even get them to use potty.

Hi, are there in any kind of childcare setting atm? That's a good place to start. If not, contact your local council. Snap Cymru provide advice and guidance so should be able to point you in the right direction locally.

No not currently, starts school in September but we use a playgroup weekly and I've shared my concerns with someone there who told me to contact my health visitor.

I feel a bit lost of I'm honest, I will try contact them bit thought my health visitor would be more helpful and want to see DC herself. Thank you

Are you aware of the integrated autism service?

You could contact your area directly to find out what you need to do to get a referral. I think my HV did the referral but you may be able to self refer. My experience may not be relevant as DS is now 9.

You could also contact the ALNco at the school to let them know you anticipate your child will need extra support and ask if there is anything you can do now to help the transition.
