Argh. I'm so behind with my OU course. Silly thing is it's still really easy, I've got great marks on my previous TMAs. And I love learning it. It's just fitting it in with a busy toddler and a baby who doesn't sleep until 10ish.

I've already got an extension but I'm just not keeping up with it. OU are very understanding as I've also told my tutor I just started anti-depressants (which are working). I even considered quitting or deferring but I'd lose my funding, as you only get it paid for if you do the whole degree in 6 years. And anyway, I want a degree, I'm smart enough to get one FGS and I want a good career, I'm just so TIRED.

Baby went to sleep early (9.30!) yesterday and I know I should've got on with the maths but I just went to bed. Today I tried doing an audio section but it just went in one ear and out the other, my head feels so fuzzy and DD was refusing to nap so I turned it off and did some craft with her. I'm glad I did that, I'm really trying hard to be a more fun mummy but it's impossible to do everything. She's got nursery later and I'm really hoping to get some stuff done then but I just feel braindead!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH sorry rant over.

You CAN do it

You WILL do it

Can you swop a couple of hours childcare with someone? Or a nights babysitting so you can go to the library?

Snuppeline · 07/07/2010 11:55

Breakdown what you have to do in manageable bits, make a timeline for when you need to do something, write in what day/time you are going to do it and then do that little bit as you set yourself to do. Before you know it you will have completed your work and you have gained great project management skills! Not every day/week/month is a good one for me either as children throw you off course sometimes and I know what you mean about being tired but like you say yourself you can do it. Even just one or two maths problems solved is a step closer to completion so just get something done rather than procrastinate. There - that's your kick up the backside from me

MathsMadMummy · 07/07/2010 14:34

thank you both.

I feel a bit better as I just had a walk to preschool and back. Going to try that audio section again now as DS is still asleep in the buggy!

DH is taking the kids out at the weekend so I have more time.

Good

Come on-line at the weekend - I will be working too so we can encourage each other

KatyMac · 11/07/2010 13:30

How are you doing??

MathsMadMummy · 11/07/2010 13:42

not too great got some reading done yesterday sitting in the garden but then lost my assignment booklet! thankfully DH suggested I find it online, but I'm still way behind. taking a break now as DS asleep on me after a feed - heaven help me if I move him

how's things with you?

OP posts:
KatyMac · 11/07/2010 15:02

Slowly, very slowly & now I have to go out to meet my brother who came over from Sweden

MathsMadMummy · 13/07/2010 12:36

how's it going?

I managed a decent amount over the weekend, DD is trying to drop her nap but seems to be dozing off now so I can do more. so stressful though

OP posts:
KatyMac · 14/07/2010 07:50

I had a good session last night - but it is hard to fit it in (even with a 12 yo)

MathsMadMummy · 14/07/2010 13:39

that's good. I managed to write up loads yesterday and today, so I'm around 3/4 of the way through it. just dropped DD at nursery so I should be able to finish now and post it before picking her up at 6. poor girl was so bored this morning, thank goodness for toys and children's TV!

don't know why but on this course, unlike the others I've done, it's all very eleventh-hour-ish! getting so disorganised. crazy though as I love the maths while I'm doing it.

I think I hate Rich Pictures

I think I hate Systems Maps

I can't wait to do my Multiple Cause Diagram (so I'm doing it last)

I am in absolute horror of the Control Model

& I still have to cut 400 words to 200 add a different 200 plus write 600

KatyMac · 14/07/2010 17:00

So far we have:

a poor yet to be completed systems map

A badly drawn 'Rich Picture'

MathsMadMummy · 14/07/2010 17:24

oo-er! don't understand any of it!

looks cool though. I like the train and teddy

I didn't quite get my maths finished DS being somewhat demanding, but I can easily finish tonight. I'm on a roll now! getting DH to post it tomorrow, cutting it fine but should be ok hopefully.

problem is, because I had an extension on this assignment, I'm now a couple of weeks behind on the next lot! hopefully this motivation will continue so I can catch up. DH promised to take the kids more so I can get on with it.

except tomorrow, I really need to make it up to DD as I've been a rubbish mummy the last few days!

OP posts:
KatyMac · 14/07/2010 20:40

I'm not sure I do either

I'm on-line submission so I get until midnight Friday

I caught up after a 3 week extension (over 2 TMAs)

MathsMadMummy · 14/07/2010 22:20

I'm finished, phew. just need to number pages. I reckon I'll need an extension on TMA05 as it's due July 30th! Hopefully a week will be enough as this block is only 3 books instead of 4.

hope you get yours all done! wish we had online submission but it's not really possible with maths.

OP posts:
KatyMac · 14/07/2010 22:24

Just scan it in

I mean I am submitting those diagrams

I've got no more done yet - but I'm hoping to be up by 6 tomorrow

MathsMadMummy · 15/07/2010 14:23

we actually aren't allowed to submit online anyway. plus I don't have a scanner

how's it gone today?
I sent mine off this morning, feel good now. DH taking the kids out on the weekend so I can get some of the next block done hopefully.

just found out my exam date - oct 13. wondering when to start revising! I'm good at exams generally but I don't want to be complacent. last time DS was 6 weeks old so they let me do it at home, an invigilator came to my house! do you have exams on this course?

OP posts:
VJay · 15/07/2010 14:28

Hi mathsmad muumy and katymac, I have just taken a couple of weeks off due to hols and now need a boot up the bum to get back into it.
Mathsmadmummy what course are you studying? I am doing MT365. My exam is 20th October and am thinking of starting to revise about 6 weeks before, I did this last year as I too had a 6 week old ds by the time the exam came round, I found myself revising whilst bf'ing

MathsMadMummy · 15/07/2010 14:40

I'm doing M208. previously done DD100, MST121, MS221. Also did most of MST209 but tried deferring my exam, they didn't get my Dr's certificate so technically I failed it! Argh!!! Have to do it again next year but at least it'll seem easier.

what's MT365?

OP posts:
VJay · 15/07/2010 14:50

MT365 is graphs, networks and designs, I'm really enjoying it. I've done MST121, MS221 and last year did MST209. Can't believe you have to re-do MST209! M208 is pure maths isn't it?

MathsMadMummy · 15/07/2010 14:52

yep, analysis, group theory, linear algebra. walk in the park compared to 209! are you doing a maths degree?

OP posts:
VJay · 15/07/2010 15:01

No I'm doing an open degree, I started off doing S103 discovering science then did S260 geology. I want to teach, but the route I was going down would lead to teaching biology and there are a lot of biology teachers, so I switched to maths, which I love. I thought I might pick up the geology again further down the line for interest.

I take it you're doing a maths degree. It's nice to find another maths enthusiast

MathsMadMummy · 15/07/2010 15:39

yep, maths degree, I did DD100 (social science) first as I wasn't sure (I love psychology too), but I just can't kick my maths addiction! I may change to 'maths in education' degree where you do level 3 courses involving working in schools, but I'm not sure yet. I want to be a primary teacher I think, so I'm hoping with a decent maths degree they'd snap me up!

OP posts:
VJay · 15/07/2010 16:51

I want to teach secondary, and like you, hoping they will snap me up too. I might do two of the math ed courses for my final level 3 courses.

MathsMadMummy · 16/07/2010 09:28

how are you guys doing today?

KatyMac do you have an exam as well?

I'm having a maths-free day today so I can relax, going to have fun with DD this morning and she's got preschool later so I can get some housework done. DH taking the kids out tomorrow to an 'emergency services day', and I'll go to the library to start the next block - if I stayed home I'd end up MNing all day

VJay, what way do you revise? I just practise loads of questions. I found that best at A Level. With MS221 I did the specimen paper and then used that to see which bits I needed to focus on. At least that course had extra question books!

I think I'll start as soon as I've rushed through this block (Group Theory B, TMA due in a couple of weeks!) - because I've had to hurry through some of the TMAs, although I've only dropped 3 marks so far out of 300 I don't know it nearly well enough for an exam. I keep skipping all the proofs!
