Have just started DS (11months) with childminder. He was very upset when I left this morning and is I think not very well either. Don't want to pester her and I know she would ring me if he was really not ok but is it "bad form" to ring and check on him? What's the usual protocal? Am generally not a worrier and have happily left him many time's with various people just don't know what the usual thing to do is here.

I would ring to put your mind at ease. I'm sure he'll be fine. No harm in showing your concern for your child either.

and thanks

I would ring - or could you text her if you think she might be busy?

Ring her.

I always rang the kindergarden on the odd occasion that the DC were upset at being left. They did not mind, they know that mums worry otherwise.

i called DS nursary every hour on his first day and he was 16 months old.

Just call her

Your childminder wouldn't mind at all you ringing - the first time I left dd with her childminder, when I went to pick her up she said she was surprised that I hadn't rung as most parents can't help but to, and there's nothing wrong with that! It will put your mind at ease x

You should definitely call.

I never mind getting a call, email or text. In fact I email pictures to parents when children are settling in to show them the smiling faces first hand.

Talk to your childminder when you pick up and arrange the best way for her to reassure you that he is ok in the future.
