Jags and baby paracetamol

DD is having her first jags on monday, and hv has suggested that I get some baby paracetamol to get her temperature down after.

  1. Do I need to give her paracetamol? It doesn't work for me or dp, and I don't want to give her unnecessary stuff.
  1. How does one get paracetamol into a breastfed baby?

Thanks ...

You don't need to give her paracetamol unless she runs a fever after the jabs or she is in alot of pain from them but it;'s worth having some in the house anyway.

You need to get paracetamol suspension which is in a liquid form (eg calpol) and a syringe - you just suck the stuff up into the syringe and put it in her mouth - aim for the sides of the cheeks otherwise you might make her gag if you get the back of the tongue.

Hope the jabs go OK!

If the syringe in the side of the mouth doesn't work (with DS it all came rushing out again) we found that slowly dripping the Calpol in can work well. I took the plunger bit out of the syringe and held the outer part to DS's lips while he was semi-reclined, and he lapped at the Calpol like a bunny with a water bottle.

However we only gave him it after one of the sets of jabs, when he still seemed upset after waking from a three hour snooze. With the other two sets, he slept all afternoon and woke happy as a clam.
