questions about winding

i have a very very windy 3month old and i'm at a loss at what to do.
he was 5weeks early and started on the 2nd growth percentile and is now on the 75th so he's been on a constant growth spurt. i'm bf'ing and usually winding him before, during and after a feed.
he is is CONSTANT discomfort and grumbles all day and all night. he wakes in the night becuase of wind and he had preiods (usually evening but can be any time) of extreme pain. hv just says colic. he was on infacol from two weeks to no effect and gripe water from a month to very limited effect so midwife at surestart said stop infacol. is it normal to be in pain all day and all night??
i wind him and wind him, i've tried massage and rubbing his tummy and moving his legs back gently.
i must be doing something wrong. i quite often feed im to sleep, should i stop? as he doesnt get that last wind, but if i do wind him again he's awake again and wants to feed and comfort suck. he won't take a dummy. also he gets these fits of panting with his eyes rolling and half closed, do i wind him then? quite often its between periods of sleep and i dont know what to do.
i've stopped eating anything spicy r with herbs and stick to plain food. the only dairy i'm eating is milk on cereal.
he passes wind all the time and any trapped wind isnt trapped for long, he cries more intensley just before he passes it.
god i just dont know what to do his first three months have been full of pain, i dont want it to continue.
please if anyoe knows anything i'd really appreciate it.

so sorry to hear you are having a rough time but you really aren't doing anything wrong - it's just difficult sometimes

i would advocate dropping the milk on cereal - just for a bit and seeing if that helps

if no luck perhaps look at cranial osteopathy as I know it has helped alot of babies?

not sure about the rolling eyes and panting - have you mentioned this to your HV and GP?

am going to drop the milk, can i use soya milk instead do you know? and thanks for the cranial osteopathy tip i'm gonna do some research and find a practioner thank you.
will talk to gp, my mum says its wind but i'll feel better after his opinion.

Hey 5mmp, could it be a combination of reflux and wind? my second child had reflux for quite a while and he was put on gaviscon (small sachets that you had to mix with water if breastfeeding or add to formula if bottlefeeding) he was always curling up and screaming/vomiting/burping/breaking wind!! Gp said reflux, gave gaviscon and within a very short space of time he was much more comfortable I know its easy said but try not to worry too much, babies are pretty gassy little things, he may just object to it a little more (who can blame him) xx

my DD (12 weeks) is FF and also is very windy. We tried everything for ages to help get her wind up with little success. she always seemed to be in pain.

A friend who is a naturapath suggested i make her formula up with a weak infusion of chamomile tea. We tried it and it worked wonders.

Since you are BF perhaps you could give him a bottle of chamomile tea after he has fed.

I make it up with 1 teabag per litre of water. You would probably only need to give him a couple of ounces.

HTH.

I agree with Charlotte it possibly sounds like silent reflux. we had 6 weeks of believing my ds had colic before I worked out that he didn't necesarily need to be refluxing. Gaviscon and ranitidine made a much happier baby.

Sorry should have read need to be sick to be refluxing.
