Baby Seat

Hi everyone

I do not have any children off my own but have a niece who is 9. As my working hours are flexible I often pick her up from school when her parents can't and occasionally comes to stay with me weekends. I baby sit her at holiday times.

My niece has reached the hight requirement for not having to use a booster cushion ages ago. My sister however insists she uses a booster seat which to me is a pain in the ....

My car is sporty and and it is always in the way. I put up with it while I had to, more then once having to turn round and return home for it. I often forget to switch the air bag off or back on again

My sister will not give an explanation as to why she wants her ride in the booster seat

So anyone with any thoughts?

FV - no, it's a height/age requirement

Ah ok, thanks, I thought it might be weight as per the other age groups.

My cousin in Germany still has a booster at 11, which isn't that unusual there, so as Stealth says, the mother must just think it's safer.

The legal requirement for children to have car seats is a relatively recent development, so it may be that the legal requirements were a compromise between going for the safest option and what the lawmakers thought the public would tolerate in terms of additional requirements? From my experience, in some cars the child can be over the legal height requirement for a car seat, but the seatbelt still doesn't look as well positioned as it would be on an adult. I would have a think about whether the seat belt actually looks well fitted in your car when there is no booster seat. We continue to use full car seat for our DS even though not legally required to, as it offers some side impact and head protection, so might as well make use of seat until he has visibly outgrown it. However, we don't insist on him using a car seat when travelling in other people's cars.

if she's facing forward you should have the airbag on
and how about one of www.trunki.co.uk/products/boostapak_9/boostapak_21these that she can bring with her?
