Recomendations for kitchen cupboard locks

We have recently moved house and need to fit locks to the kitchen cupboards as 1yr old ds is on a mission to injure himself or someone else with whatever he finds in them.

At our previous house we had the magnetic locks that Boots sell and they are a nightmare, we got rid of them when we moved and I never want to see them again! We have bought some of the catches that you have to push down to open the cupboard. These seemed fine until we realised that you need a solid surface above the cupboard to attach them to, and we have drawers above most of the cupboards.

Can anyone give me some advice on what we can do to lock the kitchen cupboards? I am getting really desperate but can't find any locks that would work.

I use both this one and this one all over my house, they're both absolutely brilliant although the 2nd one is a bit of a pita to put on (you've got to wait 24 hours), it really does the trick.

The first one seems like a good lock if you have the right cupboards for it - but we don't.

The second one looks like a much better version of something we had for our kitchen dustbin, but again, I can't see that this would work as I don't have anything to attach the other half to as there is either another cupboard/drawer next to it or nothing at all.

If I hadn't used the magnetic locks before I would say that they seemed a really good idea, but when I used them before I found that it took ages to get the magnet in the right place to open the lock.

I think I might just have to stick to shouting 'Nooo' every time he starts to open the cupboard doors.

Thanks for the recommendations though.

Could u just wrap the lock round the side of the cupboard? I have single cupboards in living room I do this with. Put stairgate across kitchen???

we had mostly double cupboards so strapped the handles together with rubber bands

We also have double cupboards and we use cable ties. Cheap and easy solution.

I have 1 double cupboard where I have used rubber bands and this seems to work quite well.
Had a stairgate across the kitchen at our previous house which worked well, but can't do that any more as its an open plan kitchen/diner so we can't keep him out of it all together.
I was thinking of looking into a fire guard type of thing that can be used to section off a room, I could keep him out of the area with the cupboards/drawers and oven that way.

also have you tried allowing him access to one cupboard/drawer (plastic boxes, beakers, teatowels etc) tolessen the allure of the others?
worked a treat on dd, and still does

Now this may sound to some,
I've never had locks on any of my drawers of cupboards,
and as a Mum and a Childminder, I dont/didnt expect my own children when they were small or the ones I mind, to go helping them selves to whatever intresting stuff thay may find, in my cuboards!
Imo they soon learn No means No with an age related explanation as to why.
Oh and Ofsted were quite happy with this too.
