Sprucing up washables for DC2?

I have a selection of nappies - mainly Bumgenius but also a few assorted ones like Motherease, Minkies, wraps and some muslins for the early days. All are in good nick and I'll be using them with DD due in Sept, but I want to spruce them up because after 2.3 years use by DS they have a few stains, loose threads, fluff in the velcro etc.

Would you wash in biological to help get rid of stubborn stains? I'd do several rinses and/or wash in non-bio a couple of times after to get rid of the bio. Or is it better just to stick to non-bio?

Any top tips for removing old stubborn stains (wash and sun resistant)?

It's not the end of the world if DD uses slightly stained nappies as I know they are essentially clean, but I'd like to make them good as new if possible!

Definitely do try the bio. I've also had success with a little Vanish well rinsed afterwards on cotton nappies (not sure about synthetics). Run the sewing machine round any loose threads, and use a needle to hoick the fluff out of the Velcro. For any white but now dingy nappies, or faded unbleached, make a pot of tea and pour in a bucket and leave the nappies to soak up the colour, wash and they'll be a nice shade of 'unbleached'

you could dye them. i have done this with dds old nappies for ds.

you could put some vanish in the wash cycle, the liquid one is very good for stains.

i would just use bio from the start myself. its never done ds skin any harm and hes got quite sensitive skin. in fact alot of countries dont even have non-bio and have lower skin allergy rates.

you could also do a wash in bicarb of soda to get rid of any germs that might be lurking?

Thanks both. Will definitely give the bio a go - not overly worried, especially if I rinse well. We only use non-bio because that is all we have in this house as DH is a bit hypochondriacsensitive to anything other than Persil non-bio

I might dye the fluffy grey white ones I have. Like the bicarb trick too.
