WWYD - DS6 drew on my pillow

My son was up in bed last night and he drew a couple of pictures with hearts on and wrote on them how much he loved mummy. Anyway, this morning when I woke up I noticed that he had drawn a heart on my pillow in non-wash off felt tip marker pen. My initial reaction was of anger as he is six andd he should know better than to be drawing on bed clothes. I didn't let on this morning that I had noticed because I wanted to calm down before I told him off.

The thing is, now that I have calmed down a bit, I'm torn between thinking it is sweet and being annoyed.

What do you wise ladies think would be a suitable punishment (or maybe no punishment)?

Maybe he was leaning on the pillow and did it by accident...

I remember when I was about that age and my parents had shouted at me for something (I probably deserved it to be fair) and I ran to the outhouse and wrote on the wall in paint 'I love my mummy and my daddy'. It was still there when they pulled it down two years ago to build the extension.

They just told me not to write on the walls with paint but that it was nice that I loved them and it was mutual.

Don't be too hard on him

Oh how sweet and a little annoying. I would probably thank him and say next time could he draw on paper so I can keep it and point out the pen is not washable so best not do this again. He had lovely intentions so I couldn't punish him unless he continued to do it. I can imagine ds 7 yo doing this.

Oh and Vanish gets out even non wash off felt tips I find.

I would not punish him. A calm "that was very sweet of you but in future only on paper please" would be all I would do.

Thank you ladies. I knew you'd guide me in the right direction!!!
