hi, my 11week old is in constant discomfort with periods of real pain always in the evening and usually in the morning. it's getting worse and i used to just be able to feel bubbles going through his hernia but now it makes noises too, like squelchy noises. the hernia isn't large though.
he was 5 1/2weeks prem and i've got a hospital appt for a seperate thing for him soon. the doc at our postnatal said it may need surgery so tell the consultant at the appt.
he grumbles constantly between the painful fits, grumbling and waking in his sleep, his feeds, all day and all night! everyone who meets him says they've never heard a baby grumble like he does. he hasn't smiled yet and i think its becuase of this constant pain.
hv says umbilical hernias dont cause pain but i think his is and i dont know what to do. has anyone got any experience of this? is his hernia causing his constant pain and grumbling?
thanks

Yeah, my sister was told that, and at 6-months following emergency surgery he lost a testicle due to negligence of the GP's, HV's and midwives, telling her it wasn't causing pain! They even told her she was suffering from PND. To be fair her sons was an abdominal hernia not an umbilical one. I do know someone who had an umbilical hernia that just got better after a year and was painless, we used to press it in and watch it pop out again to check it was still ok.
I think, if you feel your LO is in pain, you are probably correct and you should have the confidence to push and push until the doctors investigate.
