Can the get it and what can you give them? (11 months old?) DS seems to have sore eyes and a runny nose. I get it really badly so not inconceivable that he has it.

My dd2 has been like this the last couple of days - runny nose and bery teary eyes - will watch with interest!

mrsflux · 24/06/2010 20:52

hmm ds has been a manky snot monster, maybe that's his thing too? he's not poorly just a bogey machine

mumoflittlemouse · 24/06/2010 21:07

I have wondered this with our 11mo DD. Exactly the same symptoms- the usual running nose but also red eyes all day and nose clearly bothering her constantly as she can't leave it alone. (Little fists going rub, rub, rub.)
DH gets it quite badly but not this early in the season so am a bit too.
Shall await words of wisdom if they come.........as I am clueless tbh!

haymax, don't suppose there's much else. Smear it inside nostrils. Guess vaseline would do the same job. If I were you, I'd go to a health shop and ask.

CoinOperatedGirl · 25/06/2010 01:36

Yup my poor ds2 starts streaming as soon as he is out in the pollen, especially if he is near grass pollen. I must admit, we haven't taken him to the dr's as he isn't allowed any medecine.

Hoping he will out grow it.

WhoDunnitInnit · 25/06/2010 01:37

haymax

whatname · 25/06/2010 09:38

yeah, my son has exactly the same symptoms as me. he rubs his eyes so much

Jessiemich2010 · 25/06/2010 20:22

I have just asked the same question to the pharmacy and they said because my DD2 is 1 in about 2 weeks ish then she can use priton syrup she is also using it for her chicken pox at present too so I would go and ask the pharmacy what they would be able to do or take your lo to the gp and have it on prescription

whatname · 25/06/2010 20:27

the nursery phoned me up today because his eyes were swelling up so much, he will not be told not to itch his eyes. It's so sad, he looks a mess.

LadyBuzz · 25/06/2010 20:33

DS1 has it really badly, he has just turned 4 but has had it from a baby, particularly bad this year.
If their eyes are bad take them to the GP, DS got allergic conjunctivitus last year from rubbing and it was awful.

BosomForAPillow · 25/06/2010 20:36

My dd had this yesterday - nose streaming and eyes so bad she was closing them for 10-20 seconds at a time.

My GP said in theory she was too young to get hay fever (20 months) and it looked like an allergic reaction to something on her face. (I think she got suncream in her eyes.) He prescribed Piriton type stuff anyway which is for allergy or hayfever because although "in theory" she was too young, she could have it. He said they usually didn't though because it happens later when immune system has built up more (?).

Anyway, Piriton did the trick and she was much better after one dose. Still a tiny bit puffy this morning but one more dose and she was all back to normal.

BosomForAPillow · 25/06/2010 20:37

Oh yes "allergic conjuncivitis" was also something my doc said. So sad, hope she doesn't keep getting it - dh has it badly and it's awful.

LadyBuzz · 25/06/2010 20:40

sorry OP I also meant to say he has Piriton and Opticrom eye drops for his.
