3 Year Old potty problem

My eldest has not long turned 3, and we've been trying to potty train her for nearly a year now. We had started to make progress, but she regressed when our second daughter was born (who's now 6 months old), and she is still acting "babyfied" and will only go on the potty every so often and point blank refuses to do a poo on the potty. We've tried rewarding chocolate buttons but that hasn't worked. We've tried getting her to show the baby how to do a wee wee in the potty and have emphasised the fact that she's now the big girl, but this hasn't worked. Her nursery have said when she goes there in September, that she will need to be potty trained, and we're running out of ideas and time. We don't want to pressurise her and make her resent the potty. Can anyone help please????

Well i could, but I got shot down in flames earlier for stating my opinion, so I think I had better not.

Only sympathies here. Started training ds2 over 3 weeks ago now and he was doing well with wees but mainly because I kept sitting him on the potty/toilet. In over 3 weeks he has only pooed in his underpants and nothing seems to be getting through. Even offered him marbles yesterday as he asks me for marbles every day and I say no. Even the offer of marbles didn't tempt him on tho the toilet.

Tonight he pooed just outside the toilet and today we have had 3 wees on his bedroom carpet. He will be 3 in a couple of weeks so should be ready. I thought ds1 was bad it took 6 months to have him properly trained but even he would poo on the toilet most of the time.

I have no idea what to do I don't really want to backtrack at his age.

Good luck I can't believe so many children can just train in a week and others take forever - its not fair.

Try this site - it has a fantastic poo on the potty reward chart which I have used recently for a 3yr old boy who has autism. It worked straightaway on day one for both wees and poos but the little sweetie refuses to transfer the new skill to home as he associates it solely with my house.

Jo, I have emailed you. I dodn't know if any of it is any use. As I said in the email, please don't worry if you want to ignore everything I wrote. I can only tell you what worked for me. Even though I am potty training my fourth, I still feel at sea when I start!

Hi, Potty training ds (34 months), have been doing the "Gina Ford" method for a week and although he is happy to go the potty and toilet, will not go unless prompted or has accident on floor then goes.then asks for his star sticker and treat! Help, is he ready? Is this normal? Will i ever be able to wear nice clothes again?

my ds will be 3 at christmas and is not a bit interested in the potty. I have told him that he shouldnt wear nappies when he goes to playgroup so he says ok I will wear pants there...dont think he realises that he needs to use the loo too!!!!!!

Dont think anywhere can turn yoyu away for wearing nappies!
