How do I stop 15 month old DS biting me?

DS bites me fairly frequently, usually on my shoulder. I usually don't see it coming as it will often happen when we are playing together quite nicely. I try not to react, but obviously it hurts and when taken by surprise it is very difficult not to let out an 'ouch!'. He seems to find this funny.

I have tried ignoring him, as I think he thinks it is a game that hopefully he will bore of if I don't react. I worry that this may lead to him thinking it acceptable though. He has never bitten anyone else other than DH and I though.

I have also tried a stern 'No, no biting. Biting hurts', and putting him down. He then cries and I tend to pick him up straight away. I tell him that I love him very much, but that I don't like it when he bites me as it hurts.

What would you suggest wise MNers?

I would put him down as soon as he does it with a firm "no - biting hurts.". If he cries a little bit I'd try not to pick him up immediately but bend down and tell him why you put him down ( i know he won't really understand) and then pick him up again.

I would say OUCH no biting very firmly then put him down and ignore him for a bit so that he understands that he has upset you. Then once he has cried for a bit he will probably come to you to make amends, then you can pick him up and cuddle him.
