Starting reusables with a newborn and re-starting them with a toddler - what do you think?

DC2 is due at the end of September and I'm keen to do better on the reusable nappy front than last time. DD1 (now 18 months) ended up being put in reusables on a very intermittent basis, and for the last six months while I?ve been back at work full-time she has been 100% in disposables. We did this partly because her nursery ? wonderful in every other way ? seemed a bit scared by them, but mostly because the thought of all the extra washing drove us to tears. We can?t wash at night during the week because the bl**dy washing machine is so loud it wakes DD up!

Anyway, my question really is what people think about re-starting DD in reusables once I?m back on maternity leave in September. Mostly I think it?s silly to do them for one child and not the other, but DP has got me worrying that DD has got used to disposables and won?t like the reusables and that I?ll be making too much work for us doing both. I don?t think she?s anywhere near potty-training. While she likes saying pooh, it seems quite unrelated to whether she?s done one or not!

FWIW we've always used Pop-ins and sometimes Motherease one-size.

Thanks for any advice!

I would go for it! How a one size pocket nappy like Coolababy, that you can use on both without to make things easier. They dry so fast you won't have to wash too often and they do value multibuy at ww.babybots.co.uk I have only heard good things about them. I let my toddler choose which colour nappy he wants to wear.
They are all in one piece so nursery shouldn't find it difficult, and really cheap.

I used real nappies on DD for the 1st 7 months, when my washing machine packed in then was winter and didn't fancy drying loads of washing in the house, then got pregnant again and went back to work so didn't want the extra work when I was so tired and busy.

I am due in 6 weeks and plan on using them again for both newborn and toddler (15months) once I am on Maternity leave again. Not sure how well it will work, but you can only try it and see.

I don't think re-starting would be a problem as far as how they feel, and it might bring on more related shouts of 'poo' to when she needs changing. Thats my hope anyway as DD loves the word, but doesn't seem to know the appropriate timings!
