Trying to prevent staining in reusables

When you use reusable nappies, should you put them into some sort of solution while you are waiting to have enough to wash to prevent the 'poo' from staining them?
I have got a nappy bucket but the lady I bought the nappies from said to just leave them dry in bucket, but when I have done that, I am getting stains left behind in the cotton shaped reusables that I am using.
Any suggestions please.
Many Thanks.

I've always dry pailed (ie put the nappies in to the bucket without any kind of solution, just as you're doing). You do get stains from time to time and the best thing for them is sunlight. Stick them outside to dry whenever you can and they will disappear like magic.

Oh yes, have been putting them outside as did know about the sunlight trick, but it doesn't seem to have done the trick the last few times. Maybe I need to change washing solution? How do you wash yours MrsCurly? I have been using Ecover liquid at 40degreesC.

I use surcare at 60 but still get stains. Quite a lot of stains. But the sun blasts them off.

I have used the same set of nappies for nearly seven years and despite mega-staining they have stayed remarkably clean.

Leave them out in the sun for A Long Time. And the rain (ie forget they're there...). You might also use fleece liners - wash and dry in no time.

I used ecover but always washed mine on 60, didn't get too much staining and it would bleach off on the line in the summer. If they were really bad I'd put them on the intensive wash cycle.

Fleece liners are great for preventing stains but I always found them a bit yucky to use.

Ecover is not great at whitening, as it lacks in bleaching/whitening agents. This is one of the reasons its better for skin and environment, so it's a trade-off I suppose. If the stains were particularly bothersome you could try a harsher washing powder, and/or hotter washing temperature. I read a Which? report on washing powders and it seems that Persil powder is the best performing non bio powder, and Daz is best at whitening overall but IMO is pretty harsh, and has enzymes in. Depending on your preferences you could try these, or just persevere with Ecover and the sunlight.

Thanks all - have just started using fleece liners so will see how they go when I do my first wash with them in.
