How does being a Full time student affect ctc and childcare costs?

I am curretnly a SAHM and DH works full time, we have 2 dd's aged 2 and 4.
I have applied to go back to university in september and am trying to work out finances etc but the stupid entitledto calculator doesn't work for students [helpful]

We get CTC but not WTC.
Bearing in mind that the new government may change it all anyway, currently would I be able to claim childcare costs through CTC and woudl the fact that I am a student mean I am entitled to any benefits?

if you have a linky to anywhere that explains what I can/can't cvlaim as well I would be very grateful. As it is, if nothing changes we are in dire straights but woudl just cope as I get a bursery for my course.

I've just finished (yay!) my first year at Uni and I claimed the Childcare grant from Student Finance England when I applied for my tuition fee loan etc.

You wouldn't be able to claim the childcare portion of tax credits because you both have to work at least 16 hours.

So your options would be to apply for some CCG (not sure what the income threshold is)

Work PT 16hrs+ and claim the childcare portion of WTC

Use any maintenance grant/loan to pay for childcare.

Apply to the university Access to Learning Fund

All depends on how much your DH earns really

HTH!

Thanks, DH is on a fairly average wage, we get a fairl yhigh rate of CTC but obviously no WTC because I am not working.
I am also in Wales, which might make a difference, plus i have all my student loans from 4 years of Uni 10 years ago sitting aroun accruing interest as I defer it each year, so am unsure if they would give me more money

I'm in Wales too QT, just finished my first year.

I get the following from the LA / WAG:

Student loan
Tuition fee loan
Tuition fee grant
Assembly learning grant
Parents learning allowance
Childcare grant
and WAG bursary

Student finance Wales may help.

No entitlement to CTC childcare fees with only DH working.

No benefits I'm aware of, but council tax gets reduced by 25%.

If you've previously studied at HE level and / or starting a course with a bursary, you may not be entitled to any loans, check with student finance people at LA.

HTH.

Thanks guys, really ehlpful, looks like we're buggered though as I get a small bursary, luckily that is just enough to pay childcare.
